Today was finally cool enough without constant down pours I could do some work in the garden. I hate doing so much hard work in the garden, and not really look like I did it all. All I got to was 4 wheel barrows full of weeds & finished dead plants. Turned in 2 wheel barrows full of compost. Everything looks clean though! LOVE IT!

When do you do when your garden has freed up space....? You order stuff! Hahaha

So I ordered 3 lbs of garlic so far. I also went through my seed box to pick out what is going in next. Just need to put everything in order of when I need to get it in the ground. I know I'm running a bit late on this, but I'm on the ball now!

So what have you done for your fall garden today?

I planted a mixed row of beets and spinach, and a short row of mixed lettuces. Filled in a few more seeds where the mole rooted out the mustard. Surveyed the cucumbers. They will need to be pulled out soon. Don't know what I will put there. Maybe turnips.

Weather has been terrible this summer, they grew sooo slow. Now they are growing like crazy !! The plants look more alive (they love humidity) I just planted more carrots, cabbage, squash. I wish I could plant more veggies, but winter will come and I need a break ! ;)

I tilled for a new strawberry bed and moved about 50 plants into a couple of rows. I have 100 strawberry plants coming from Oregon this week and the lady sending them says some have as many as 5 runners attached.
In another fresh tilled area I transplanted about 20 cucumber plants in hopes of getting a few more to pickle before frost.
I also transplanted about 20 leeks to overwinter outside.
I have some cabbage started in the green house that I hope will be far enough along to put out next week.

My main garden sat a dormant weedy mess all summer, but we finally got it tilled. I have a bunch of composted manure that needs spread out and the garden really needs limed before winter. If I can hurry and get that stuff done, I am going to plant a few fall things like kale and turnips, etc. The remainder will be sown with winter wheat which does a great job holding down the soil from erosion and will also prevent most weeds from taking hold, as well as improving the soil when I turn it under in the spring. *Sigh* That's the plan anyway...if I manage to get to it... :th

Well my cucumbers are a bust, don't look like any will make it.
Leeks look real good and about half the transplanted strawberrys are coming around.
Today I transplanted 4 nice clumps of asperagus I had started in the green house.
I was notified that my strawberry plants coming from Oregon were shipped 8/22, I hope they get here Friday so I can start planting Sat.

I've got winter squash coming up - Table Queen and Waltham Butternut. I got my seeds in the mail yesterday from Baker Seeds; Detriot Dark Red Beet, Golden Beets, Bloomsdale Spinach, and Parisienne Carrots! I hope mine look this good! :p
