The neighbors a mile over are a nice old man and his bachelor son. The old man's wife loved nature so he doesnt let anyone mow his ditches beyond the necessary for fire control so he has some beautiful patches of well-established wild-flowers. I had never met them, but he caught me in his thicket the other day taking pictures and was SO glad that someone was enjoying the things he left in memory of his wife. I mentioned the raspberry patch in the thicket, and he told me "Oh anytime you want to pick flowers or berries or whatever you just go ahead" so we did just that last night! They are teeny berries but in 20 min I got 2 cups of them, enough for us all to have some with breakfast :)

Isn't this the way things should work out with neighbors. Too often there is an air of suspicion and territory when it comes to folks when they catch people going through their property. I am happy he was receptive to you all and not an old grouch like I always meet. :p

Yesterday, I had the oddest thing happen; there was a knock at the door and there was this woman that pulled up in a truck. About my age or older; she wanted peaches. Just like that. She said, "I want some peaches from your peach trees" LOL.

OKAY!!! LOL Bold woman, I have to give her that much. Sadly the trees just finished fruiting and I processed all my peaches two weeks ago, so the trees are empty.

I explained this to her and told her to come back next year when she sees fruit in the tree. Then the chances are much better. I know these trees put off more fruit than one family can handle and I would be happy to share. I am not so sure I would want to hand out my peaches in a jar because those are for me and my families, eventually she too can be part of that circle, but for right now she was a smiling demanding face in one of my most perilous days (I had a nightmare day yesterday--probably best for a whole new post)

After she left it occured to me that I could have at least given her a melon. Oh well, perhaps she will be as bold next year.
