My father is on automatic delivery for oil,He gets oil every 2 weeks. About 10 days ago he got a delivery for a full tank, for some reason a different driver came the next day. He never measured how much oil was in tank just started pumping. My father happens to look out window a sees a pool of oil in yard. By the time he got the driver to stop pumping 50 gallons of oil was spilled. DEP was called in, they wanted soil removed 4 feet deep, owner of oil company was there, swore to my dad they would make everything right. Heavy digging equipment and dump trucks where bought in. It is a small city lawn, not sure what damage is done till spring, they had to take out several Japanese maples. My dad just called me in a rage, he was opening todays mail, oil company sent him a bill for 50 gallons of spilled oil. Since my mother died my sister and I have been handling any problems my father has. Sending a bill of spilled oil is straw that broke camels back, rather then telling my father I would handle it, i told him to call owner and let him know how he feels about bill. Because the DEP is involved I am pretty sure owner willn't hang up on my father. Did I mention my father doesn't talk calmly but yells.

Oh boy, somebody's head is gonna roll for sure. 4 feet of soil...that's a bit extreme. I thought you guys had clay substrate up there too. Nothing percolates through clay.

I can't help it, that is funny! I know how the oil spill laws work from my days working for a garbage company. If a hydraulic hose busted, we sent out a clean up crew, and that was for just a small spill, nothing like 50 gallons!

I have a mental picture of your Dad, fighting mad over the mess in his yard, loss of maple trees, loss of soil, and to get a BILL for it? Oh, that is just too much! I would be yelling at the owner too!
