I know...some of you are probably flabberghasted that i'm just getting started, especially the ones harvesting by now! I am running a little late for my own schedule...usually i have the greenhouse going by the end of april...altho the plants go in & out that early. But i'm really not that behind for direct planting in montana without any protection. Here's what i got accomplished today:

Weeding - i did this once before, so just a quick run thru the garden today to get out any new ones.
Cleared out garden shed a bit to get to the things i needed.
Installed timer, garden hose and soaker hose.
Set up my plant starting shelf on sawhorses, cut plant ID tags out of yogurt cups, and started seeds of:
Basil, muncher cucumbers, cocozelle zucchini, delicata squash, spaghetti squash, blue hubbard squash, acorn squash, hot peppers.
Up-potted my campari and big boy tomatoes, the only plants i started indoors this year.
Direct planted more lettuce, some purple cabbages, beets and sugar snap peas. Oh, and cilantro.

I'm also excited...i'm getting some quinoa seed, i got inspired thanks to Hoodat's post about it, and i have a new area to plant it in, thanks to the death of my clematis. I'm kinda bummed about the clematis, but it is giving me the opportunity to try something new! I ordered the seed from Sustainable Seed, and they grow this variety at 6,000 feet in colorado, so i figure it should do ok with my short growing season. The area i'm putting it in is separate from all my other garden beds too, so i wont mind if it self-seeds.

BTW, some of you may remember my raspberry cane issues from last year...nasty looking lesions on the stems and leaves. I'm so surprised, they're sprouting just fine this year so far!!

Oh, one more thing i accomplished today: sunburn :rainbow-sun

Do you know how good you just made Seedcorn feel? Hes been bellyaching for a while about people in Texas. Not about them being from Texas but about how far ahead they are. I think somebody else eating squash falls in that category too. OK, Ill quit teasing Seedcorn.

I once tried to grow a garden in Denmark. That was down about sea level, not at your altitude, so I can kinda image some of what you are going through. Im glad your season is finally approaching.

Congratulations, Heather!

But, I am a little confused.

Why was I thinking that you said you would not have a garden this year?? It wasn't just the frost your home town has had up until now . . .

Being in totally different zones, we all understand!

In fact, I get very impressed to see all you have to accomplish so quickly when its time to go, and just how much you can get done in your total season. So... GO YOU! :tools

Honeycomb, you read my mind: first thing i did when done with projects was hot shower. 2nd, cold beverage!

Steve - no greenhouse early this year...wanted to focus on finishing school and taking my big test, all done now! I built a mini greenhouse with hubby's help tonight, just basically covered the shelving with a bit of plastic from last years greenhouse, and reworked the irrigation system to mist gently in there. That's one huge advantage i've discovered about the irrigation system, it's super adaptable! We just zip tied closed the drippers ididnt need right now, and unsnapped some of the mister heads and swapped them out so they were where i needed them.

Thistle - i got to start working the day after school ended, last saturday. :) i've been loving my job taking xrays, and get to work in a great department with techs that i worked with all thru school. :coolsun
