Okey-dokey, so I understand how cross polination works in the edible species:

Maxima + Moschata only
Mixta + Moschata only
Pepo + Moschata only
Moschata + anything

So what about Luffa? Will Luffas cross with C. Mixta, C. Pepo or C. Maxima?

Thank you,

Not sure... but remember cross pollination doesn't affect the fruit this year, it is only a concern for seed saving.

Just from the nomenclature . . . I try to use that word as often as possible ;) . . .

I don't think they will cross. Luffa is a different species and genus. So, it shouldn't be any more closely related than a watermelon is to a pumpkin.

Looks like luffa is off by itself. Other members of the family Cucurbitaceae probably won't even invite it to family get-togethers.

Steve :)

Thanks for the answer - that's kinda what I thought. It seems to be much more Cucumberine than Squash-like.

and X2, that was an interesting sentence twist.
