Not dumb at all. Lawn tractor is belt driven, meant to mow, pull small things for lawn. Garden tractor has a metal drive assembly like a tractor because it is, just small horse power.
But you have to ask. IF belt driven, then just a high priced mower.
a riding lawn mower can mow the grass and pull a few attachments
such as cart/spreader/sprayer.. basically any attachment had uses a pin style hitch...
pin attachment
a garden tractor "ok a real garden tractor" can mow the yard and then you can drop the mowing deck and hook up attachments that require a sleeve hitch.
if it can not have a sleeve hitch installed on it, it's just a lawn mower.............
such as plow/box blade/ disc cultivator
my 2000 21 hp garden tractor was the last year it was manufactured...biggest mistake that mtd did.. imho yes it's belt driven....and a yes it's a working machine.
who said you can't garden like a commercial farmer at home... L7
@Nyboy thus the confusion. A tractor (see Bay's Kubota) will have gears, solid transmission, pto, everything a real farm tractor will have-just less horses. If you want to see the difference, go to a John Deere implement store. They have 3 levels. Cheap John Deere paint, says John Deere but worse than MTD. Middle range (see price tag jump) that are belt driven mowers. Then see what they call a tractor, don't scratch it or you will have to mortgage your shop. It will have everything a larger HP has just with same HP engine the cheap one and middle one has. Hook all 3 up and the tractor will pull the other 2 all over with the belts screaming.
@majorcatfish agree, belt driven can and do a lot of work, for most of us, more than strong enough. Agree the PR people have made a mockery of quality. Most people want the look that will cut grass.
