I forgot... Is Trooper Smyth from the Lemon Boy or from the Safeway Cluster? If it's from the Lemon Boy, it's leaves should be kind of leathery almost, and be somewhat sage green.

I'd found out that HYBRID VIGOR can last for 3 or 4 generations with Tomatoes.

I'm actually hoping you'll do some cross pollinating with them this year.

What varieties of Tomatoes are you growing this year, in list form?

The General is from the Lemon Boy. Trooper Smyth is from the Cluster. I'm still working on that "General" name. The Troopers are later sown.

For many of these, I only have a few.

Despite my debacle at crossing the Bloody Butcher, Buisson & Kimberley -- you want me to attempt something else??!

I thought I'd attempt those 3 again just to try to show that I can learn from my mistakes and I'm not a total imbecile.

Steve.

Crossing Tomatoes takes a few tries before you get some success. There are different ways to do it. I use the neanderthal method.

4:01 pm, first try posting this didn't work. I'll try again later...

I love your tomatoes! I passed the monitor in front of mine to see if I could
initiate a little competitive spirit...

General Cluster! That's a good one!
Trooper Smyth is very appropriate also. We all know that guy. ;):)

I have a feeling that @marshallsmyth picked up the "Safeway cluster tomatoes" in California and not on the Little Big Horn. Also, I don't want to go all "martial" on his creations nor put too much pressure on him.

He sent so many "de-hybrids" and crosses! Some were at several generations towards stabilizing! It will also take me several years to work my way through them . . . of course, one packet gave me an excuse to grow Prudens Purple again! I don't know if those had any role in his experiments but those are a fine choice for an heirloom beefsteak! They very nearly are early enough to be a mainstay in this neck of the woods.
