At a half price sale I picked up 3 pear trees Kieffer, Ayers and a Bartlett. I just noticed all have the same Latin name Pyrus Communis did I buy 3 varieties or 1 ?

No, Pyrus communis just means the type that originated in Europe, as opposed to the Asian pears.
Then your 3 varieties were developed from that.

thistle is correct. Keiffer is resistant to fireblight, while Bartlett tends to be prone to fireblight. so there are some differences between the varieties.

Nyboy, what are you going to do with all that fruit?! I have Shinseiki as one of my 4 grafted asian pears. Tree is still young so I won't get any fruit this year.

i wouldn't give up on the Bartlett. it is a good pollinator for a lot of other pears. and pears need to be cross pollinated since not many will do it themselves.
