it is my biggest reason for liking eggnog, rice pudding, custards, brandy alexanders and well, pretty much anything else i can think of sprinkling it on. :)

i know it can be psychoactive if you eat a lot of it at once, and i've not ever experienced anything unusual in waking life, but i do admit that i have had some strange dreams. the problem is that i also have strange dreams without it too... :)

If you come anywhere close to me,

flowerbug,

you are now at risk of being discombobulated by mace.

Nutmeg is the secret ingredient in my favorite steak spice.

That steak sauce,

@Dirtmechanic ,

would likely be better with mace.

i don't know, it may just reflect that i have bought lower quality nutmeg
I will try it if I run across some. Its from the same plant so its probably similiar. I wonder how the more subtle flavor will make it through searing a steak without disappearing.

i would be ok trying that, but must skip the black pepper and perhaps the paprika. sometimes i've had reactions to that.

that would be the makings for a huge number of steaks!
Yes it will serve a steakhouse for a week. But if you multiply each number by 5mL, then you start with a tablespoon of salt, a teaspoon of everything else, and 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg or mace as you prefer!

Just caught the last 5 minutes of New Scandinavian Cooking.

As soon as the picture comes on, Andreas is fishing around in his vest pocket and pulls out a nutmeg seed. He grates it on his "pollock gratin" and comments, "you don't want to use too much, about 1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon. Nutmeg tends to dominate."

I think that this is the recipe for 3# of fish and a couple of eggs.

i did not have any nutmeg yesterday. now that the rice pudding is gone i have no excuse to use it on much of anything. i'm heading into dietary lockdown mode here for a while too, aka KeepaDaPieHoleShut for the next week or two.
