I’m hoping to change to a deep litter method or raised beds with at least part in a new area. The old garden has wilt and tomato disease. The new one for this year is in sandy, rocky soil on top of a hill and it dries too quickly for the summer garden. It’s a good spot for the cold season and root crops though. I’d like to grow all my own veggies within reason some stuff just isn’t practical though. I’d also like too raise meat chickens and a milk goat or two. Have a well installed or have one of the old ones tested as there are several already on the property but none more recent than 50 years and not well dug.

@Artichoke Lover have you ever raised Cornish Cross chickens before? I’ll be glad to share my expertise or lack thereof….. ATM have 15 on ice to cut and vacuum seal today and tomorrow. Then only 8 more to send to freezer camp. I raise them in a chicken tractor, moved daily.

Thank you! I think I’m planning on raising a different chicken breed that I could sustain a breeding flock of maybe freedom rangers or kosher kings. But all this is still in the day dream stage really. I’ve started doing research but it will be a few years before anything is really feasible. Plans will get spread up if meat gets extremely expensive again though. I do have a neighbor who is going to help me butcher my first round of cockerels soon though.

Just learned this morning that the tractor guy is coming back soon to till the neighbor's garden. I will need to drive out soon to harvest some more weeds for the kitchen hopefully, before he tills. Our weed harvesting has actually been mostly in that garden!
