I’m loving 2 of those in the grey/black grouping. The one I marked A is a really unique buff colour, imo. And B is a gorgeous blend of tones. Really beautiful!View attachment 72646

yes, B is among my favorites which showed up fairly recently and seems to be stable enough to begin thinking up a name - when seen in the sun they are amazing. i think i segregated a purple version of that bean just above it.

the beans to the right of A have some wonderful green color in them.

Stripes or other marks. The yellow and red colored one is from Tinker’s Fire. Most of the others are from two Painted Pony outcrosses (dark and light) and the few blue tinted beans on the right are from Sacre Bleu. Yet my favorite (as hard as it is to pick just one) is the dark and pink one in the middle.

Some very strange beans.

Lavender and Green colors with some having a mix of both.

Purple Dove selections. The container in the middle bottom row has all sorts of various odd beans in it (if I'd put each type in a different container there'd be a bunch more).

Very rarely I find outcrosses among beans that grow from seeds harvested by me. Here, pollinators are not interested in bean flowers when linden trees, summer squashes, sunflowers, clovers and other honey plants are blooming around.

Yes, I’ve never had an outcross here either and I grow many varieties each year in close proximity. But then I have lots of other things blooming at the same time, like you.

what percentage of each bean that you grow do you replant?

for many of the beans i grow i am replanting a large percentage of what i harvest. the bulk beans that i grow are the exceptions but those are usually not too many out of the 30-50 that i usually plant (but even a few of those might get a 10% replant rate)

Almost all. I’ve been mostly focused on keeping up with fresh seed. This year I’m planning to grow larger quantities so that I can try cooking some, plus some to share. I’ve only really cooked with Graines de Cafe as a dry bean. Although we do eat a lot of snap beans.

I had the funniest seed request experience today. I was fulfilling a request I got a few days ago when I realized I had forgotten to confirm if payment had gone through. It's so automatic that the request comes with the email payment that I don't usually have to check. Anyway, so I look more deeply at the person's location and email to notify them that there was no payment because seniors often struggle with this new email payment based system. I didn't want the person waiting and waiting for seeds thinking that they had paid - which has almost happened a few times already with older folks. I realize on closer inspection the order was actually placed by Agriculture Canada Research & Development- odd. So I write them at the email they provided ( to tell the gov I guess they need to pay me, now that's a switch! hahaha!), and it bounced back! What the!? Oh well, I guess if they want to know what happened they'll have to contact me. Weird.

I can order seed from Roughwood for you. The owner there is food historian and author William Woys Weaver. He orders from me from time to time. We exchange emails with each other. I'm even working on a little project of finding some bean varieties for the Roughwood collection. The beans that you sent that Guy Dirix acquired for me will wind up in my collection as well as the Roughwood collection. Let me know what you would like and I'll be very happy to get it for you.

When he gets that Sy Maa bean back in again I'm going to order that one. The seed stock I had of Joseph Simcox of Sy Maa apparently doesn't grow. I saw what a beautiful bean it was when I ran accross the bean on the Roughwood website.
