I've an odd question for the group. In the last week, I received my Seed Savers and Baker Creek Catalogs which are always happy finds in the mailbox. Though in looking at both, I notice what I feel like is a fairly big decline in the variety of beans they're offering.
Baker Creek only has 17...
@Blue-Jay I'm mailing the bean-post this morning. I'll be including three of the four...sadly the Hallados Grandos just didn't produce for me (big healthy looking plants but only a few beans really late in the season). The three I'm returning are the Romanian Large Plum Speckle, Lucie and...
I'm FINALLY going to get my handful of Network beans in the mail today I hope. It was a strange year and of the four network beans I was growing, 1 was a total loss to rabbits and 1 was basically a failed crop (Croatian Monstrance) I took a picture, but it's not even enough to ship and I'm a...
It's been a very weird year for my gardening efforts, but I can plainly say that only the network beans get the special "move into the garage" treatment!
I planted those on May 7. I have a ton of the seed so I wasn't too worried if the weather didn't cooperate. We've had really strange weather this season though...way more summer like than spring so things do seem to be farther along than normal this year.
Total gardening geek post, found my first bean blossom of the season this morning. It's our go-to family bean that we've grown for years, it's a French climbing bean called Algarve which I purchased from Park Seed probably 15 years ago. It's definitely the little things that make me happy in...
Lost a handful of pole beans to rabbits, but not my network beans thankfully. I'm in the middle of Indianapolis, but we have tons of rabbits largely because they don't have any predators (and my dog is no help). They don't seem to go for the raised beds, but today's project was to try and...
@heirloomgal, I grew the Gabarone Sugar in 2018...it was a very slow growing pole bean for me. Oddly enough, I put some notes and pictures on the 2018 version of this thread - if you search Gabarone, you'll see the posts. It looks like mine could've used an extra month but I did get a decent...
Thank you! I've got very limited space to work with and the raised beds are a really nice option. We're in an urban area and the soil isn't ideal so this setup works really well for a small salad garden and of course beans.
