Windstorm blowing through ...

Initially, no problem with daylight saving time sleep hours. Finished my bowl of Kashi, Corn Flakes, Raisins and Banana. And, thinking about @jbrobin09 's pepper sauce, @Shades-of-Oregon 's willingness to try it, @flowerbug 's and @hdan 's appreciation for Sriracha sauce, whether trying to pronounce the first "r" in that name is necessary, and @Dahlia "tossing" Thai peppers into stir-fries — oh, be careful with those little firecrackers 🎇!

Inhibitions against me wasting ingredients has really messed up my experiments with fermented/cured foods. I've tossed everything from attempted pastrami to sauerkraut. Even beer – Dad had to be in charge of beer making even if I was in charge of gathering ingredients. As soon as I tried it myself ... compost addition :(.

I was successful only with the very simplest of wine ingredients and, that might have been the reason. Simple. But, the final product, big deal, huh?

stuff happens @digitS'...

we had to throw out part of a chocolate cake today. if you know how we are about chocolate and food this is a big deal. i don't know what Mom did with that one when she made it but it was way too dense and dry and i wasn't going to eat any more of it and she hadn't touched it in the past two weeks more than one small corner. nope. i'm not choking that one down.

we went shopping yesterday. i hate shopping but we still manage to have a fun time. very tired though by the time we came home as we'd had to go to the laundromat first and wash some things. i would have washed whatever i needed (kneaded :) ) in the sink.

other than that i always recommend starting with small amounts and making sure you have the concepts and process down before expanding production to the point where it hurts to throw out mistakes.

Do you want her recipe?
Oh, no. Thank You, Ducks'

It was over 30 years ago that I tossed that brisket. I returned the smoker to Dad and gave up on sausage, as well. That is, except for breakfast sausage and haven't made that in probably 10 years – DW didn't care for my sausage, made or purchased.

@digitS' , eldest DD (Chef) has made corned beef out of beef brisket.
We have 2 (by looks) fat and one fat and large briskets--just moved them to clean out the basement freezer.
She plans to make some pastrami out of that, too.
Do you want her recipe?
I would love a tried and true recipe for corned beef!!!

@digitS' i've always pronounced it shreeracha. i don't know why i think it is because of Sri Lanka. you don't really emphasize the sh part as much as a faint whiff into the r sound. yes, i do say Sri Lanka right. i do not pronounce sriracha correctly but if you aren't listening closely you wouldn't notice. i'm barely adding any sh or r at that part.

from the wiki for Sri Lanka (ok, i was needing a momentary distraction and thought they'd have a pronunciation of the name - nope)...

but look at this beautiful script... :)

Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka
  • ශ්‍රී ලංකා ප්‍රජාතාන්ත්‍රික සමාජවාදී ජනරජය (Sinhala)
  • இலங்கை சனநாயக சோசலிசக் குடியரசு (Tamil)

Second breakfast, whole wheat toast and honeydew melon ..

. from Guatemala!

At least, it's in the northern hemisphere (& not a bad price). I can hardly expect any canned fruit no matter what time of the year –– unless i buy it myself. DW is very much a fresh aficionado. It's okay. Melon is okay, too ... better with coffee and so, on to my 2nd cup!

edit to add: 46 mph wind gusts and building!

@Dahlia, I should add that DD makes corned beef from the beef brisket that is part of the whole cow that we buy. I just moved 3 large briskets from my downstairs freezer to HER freezer to get these made sooner. She also has a recipe for pastrami, aNOTHER end product of beef brisket.
She has a small smoker, not yet used, which is now the popular way to cook brisket, known for being tough cut of beef unless cured, and popular in the SW, as you know.
Friend, who bought another whole beef from same seller last year smokes his brisket and smokes the ribs. We did swapsies this week. We needed hamburger and he was happy to take the ribs.
