    Feeder Pigs

We actually have a FoodSaver. However, we have been very disappointed in the way the seals opens & air gets at the food anyway. :he Considering how much time it takes to seal the bags, and how much meat we had to process in a short timeframe, we decided to just use freezer zip-lock bags. Not...

    Rainwater Collection

We have obtained some 275 gallon water totes, in a metal cage. Our plan is to use the totes for aquaponics. I have included info about those totes in "Aquaponics Anyone?" I have been asked to start a thread on rainwater collection. At risk of being redundant, and to get things started here, I...

Oh yeah! I slept like a rock! Here are the tops of the totes, from the porch. Well, the storm finally got to us. It's pouring now! In 20 minutes we have already gotten 1/2" of rain in the rain gauge. We can hear the water running into the tote! :celebrate

    My Dad

 :yuckyuck :gig But oh so true! :D Actually, more than once, when someone refused my help, I told them they were stealing my blessing. :th:p

    Feeder Pigs

On Saturday morning I thought we were finished with the butchering. Au Contrairé! We found a plastic bag with the second belly/rib meat. I separated the ribs (spare ribs) to be grilled at a later date. Since sodium nitrates, used to cure meat, gives me severe migraine, we had decided to use...

    Baymule's 2016 Garden

I've been wanting to do that. But it takes so long, for me, to load photos, I haven't had time to do that. Thunder storms are getting close & I'm sitting with ice on my arthritic ankle, so I finally have time to wait for photos to load.

    Feeder Pigs

We picked up our pig (Bacon) last Thursday. We decided to not have it smoked & to butcher it ourselves to save money. We did what is called a "Kill & Chill", which means they kill & gut It & skin It. It ended up saving us $150 doing it that way. It was quite a sight, seeing the butcher's son...

    Baymule's 2016 Garden

Wow Bay! Great job! Why am I just finding this thread??? Oh, I know . . . I've been so busy butchering Bacon & getting MY garden going, I haven't had time to relax & peruse TEG. :th I LOVE the way y'all are using your "garden tub" to start seedlings. :gig Now that the pigs are gone...

    Devonviolet Acres

We had an exhausting, busy day today! Tomorrow we are supposed to have rain all day. Since we got the water totes last week, we wanted to get them set up to start our rainwater collection. Before we could do that we had to drive to town (Sulphur Springs) to get some supplies, at Lowe's, to...

    My Dad

I'm so sorry you have to go through this Journey. But, it sounds like God is giving you strength, wisdom & help! :hugs I wish we were close enough that I could give you a hand. I'm praying that He will bring you even more help. @baymule gave you some good advice, about asking your church...

    Sweet potatoes........................ GRRRRRR

Wow! @Ridgerunner! Your slips look awesome! That's great @ducks4you! Talk about a bonus! I checked my three sweet potatoes, and they are putting out some tiny roots. So, I'm on the way. No buds yet. But, experience tells me they are coming . . . eventually. But that's okay. We still need to...

    Aquaponics anyone?

You're on the right track @bobm. That sounds suspiciously like aquaponics. :p  If I'm understanding your plan correctly, after the fish water goes through the growing medium, it would be fairly well filtered & oxygenated & voilá - aquaponics! The only need to add water is due to...

    Re-did the floors.

Our house had tongue-in-groove vinyl plank flooring when we bought the house. We get lots of compliments on how nice the floors look. Caring for it is simple: ** We have a rechargable, battery, Shark Navigator electric broom, for picking up loose dirt & cat hair. It takes 5-10 minutes to do our...

    Devonviolet Acres

Ah yes! I remember (with a smile) Victory Garden! I loved watching that show. I always had an interest in growing healthy foods - even back 40 years ago, when I was young. However, it wasn't until I got sick with Lyme Disease & other problems related to a non-existent immune system (including...

    Devonviolet Acres

We have read Ruth Stout's book about deep mulch gardening. The thought just occurred to me, what about just piling hay around the Leeks, instead of dirt, to keep the Leeks white?

    Landscaping don'ts

Wow, @Smart Red ! I'm sorry to hear about all your wind damage. What a pain! We have one of those canvas garages, that we bought at Harbor Freight last Summer. Before we bought our canvas garage, I read all the reviews. Some complained that the garage fell apart in high winds. Others said...

    Aquaponics anyone?

That might be a good idea, except that the plant manager wanted to make sure we lived in Hopkins County before we could have the totes. That's an awesome idea, Mary, about taking each the three guys, that helped us out, a dozen eggs. I will definitely do that! :)
