I have the two shop bought ones, which so far, are not wanting to climb so I removed the trellis. One has two fruit but on the other they just seem to go yellow and drop off.
Then there is the Sweet granite. good thing I kept most of the seedlings cos the first pair I planted out have been...
Thats so cool, my DIL is from New Hampshire.
I'm going to have to check out that pepper now. Capsicuns are one thing I have always had difficulty getting to grow. Chillis...no prob, so I dont really understand why.
It usually takes me three goes at getting something new to grow. With these...
Today was water everything early in the morning and tie the tomatoes up again and thin out the laterals that for some reason, I missed.
Somehow, my San Marzano's are Beefsteaks and vis versa, no idea how that happened.
There was one that just looked sad, so I pulled it.
Sweet Granite rock...
Yesterday, the Apple tree in the front yard got trimmed of lower branches. Some were catching my hair when I mow the lawns and the other werent getting any light and not producing anything so I decided they may as well come out too. These got chopped up with the loppers and scattered over the...
Summer may have finally arrived.
There has been alot more rain than usual but with being so windy, the ground dries out quickly.
Mornings are still quite cool and usually overcast. Today is like that so far-8.15am. I'm not sure if its going to rain or not but will probably have to water the beds...
Right now all is Not well down here.
I realised that I have wrecked my shallots by planting them too deep. The only ones that have turned into nice little fat shallots were the two small bulbs that got planted elsewhere cos there wasnt enough for another complete row. Gutted and kicking myself.
This last week has been another busy as usual week trying to get things back to normal.
The tomatoes that had laterals, got them all removed and those that needed tying got done....then it was back to the front yard...weeding and cutting out dead trees and thinning out the Olive tree. Its the...
Over the last few days I got so much done.
After work on Sunday, I plucked my baby tea hedge and got almost half a big bowl of leaves. Normally, I take them inside and dry toast them in my wok, but after reading that this is done to sterilize the leaves, I just popped the bowl on the hood of my...
Today, I really needed to finish cutting back the branches of the Mulberry tree that were hanging over my neighbors green house.
I cut out as much of the low soft stuff that I could reach and had to climb the tree, with one foot on the fence to trim back some of the higher stuff....then had to...
My big avocado tree is the middle of its flowering and as per usual, is dropping a ton of leaves. These will be collected soon and used as mulch.
Hopefully, they will again keep the beds from drying out too fast over the next few months of summer and into fall.
I love how our seasons are so...
According to my moon calendar, it was That day to plant out and sow berry/fruit grain and seed type plants
So, all the Beefsteak tomatoes got planted out....after I got all their stakes in and cross braced- I should have done that yesterday!
These went into a 4 foot wide bed, so I centered them...
I had a nice chat with my elderly neighbor the other day. She is happy with the progress we both have made in our front yards but did mention that my Mulberry tree is once again hanging over her greenhouse and could I do something about it?
....so today after I inspected the bee hives, I hauled...
Today, I finally confronted that pile of 'compost' sitting in the parking area.
It had started off quite well and was supposed to have gone to the dump due to having citrus prunings containing our native borer pest, but....the next day I had to take mum to a specialist appointment which took all...
In accordance to my moon calendar - its a good time here now to prune to decrease activity, so.. The Avocado tree down the front of the garage got all the low hanging branches cut back. I then moved up the drive to the Pittosporums-nz native shrub and topped some of mine and my neighbours cos we...
Apple mint...
years ago, Somebody gave my mum some Apple mint for me, so of course I had to plant it...'It has such a lovely flavor and isnt invasive like other mints'....grrrr
It tasted bloody horrible, didnt go with any of my recipes and was invasive as all hell, took ages to get rid of it...
This week, after checking all the shops here and the next town over for sweet corn seedlings....I drove 40 minutes to Bunnings in Rotorua. Yay! 3 1/2 dozen seedlings.
So now these have been planted out. I didnt bother with the sad things I still had cos they were less than half the size. They...
This thread has been an eye opener for me.
I love garlic, life without it would be unimaginable.
I grow Elephant, a red skinned and a white- no idea what their names are.
My soil is very free draining/volcanic silt, i'm told so I dont need to worry about it drowning.
I plant the corms very...
...you're killing chives...or trying to? Whats wrong with you!!! lol
If my DIL heard you were thinking of pouring ash over things like Plantain and Dandelions..man...you are in deep Kim chi.
She uses these in her herbal remedies along with just about every other 'weed' except for 'That' one.
