I mulched and lined my front beds just fine. But I edged that garden deep with some of that plastic edging that is 6" deep.
Problem with the back gardens is they are fenced and the mower doesn't fit so I can't leave grass, plus this centipede grass does grow under, over and through everything...
That's what I did last year, regular vinegar sprays. Problem is the space doesn't allow me to get equipment in there, and I'm trying to do less labor on my body if possible.
With this path it was more like germinated seeds, and the EVIL centipede grass the grows under, over and THROUGH...
So last year I wanted to try a bunch of new things. Many failed. Oh well, we all learn.
This year, I want to give a good amount of space to only type. This year I feel I'll get it right. In previous years, I always have at least 20 tomatoes and 1-2 squashes then a few of my favorites. I'll...
After many new attempts at paths in our permanent garden area I'm frustrated! We've done a good several inches of pea gravel after clearing the paths, and it became an over grown mess. Then we pulled up all the pea gravel, rinses it with bleach water put down a layer of sand and row cover and...
We general grown the Danvers because they germinate well for us. Our problem is more germination then anything else. I tried those purple ones last year, it grew like 3 out of 50 seeds from that pack, but the Danver type did great, probably 90% and I had to thin them good.
Everyone we did grow...
So my trusty highlighter and I went through a rampage on those seed catalogs. Then hubby surprises me that he's reconstructing my garden at the end of the month to plan out his shed and as a bonus somehow 4 more raised beds have been added to his equation he's going to build me. He knows my...
Well Major I saw about what you did last year, maybe more.
A wise farmer once told me: "Drought can be a farmers burden, but too much rain will be his downfall. You can bring water to a crop, but you can't take it away."
SeedObserver, that is QUITE the list! Some I've already saved, but I see some new ones I need to go browse.
Mary, I missed you too! And as for the hardening off, I've messed up quite a few times. Sometimes, I generally forgot I put them outside at all and the next morning.... dead. I'm a...
Jack, have you thought about trying another propagation now? Maybe start 2 more each month for 6 months and mark what you did each time and figure out which one's took when just to check your work over time. Plus if month two clipping took and month 1 didn't take, you'd have 6 months of attempts...
So I've got a pile of catalogs that have been rolling in since Thanksgiving. I haven't opened a single one.
I've been so wrapped up with the holiday and the family and the house I couldn't give a thought to spring just yet.... but the lights are packed away, the weather is all dreary...
Nothing like these people getting us all hooked and addicted! I felt like a fool when I first started here and now I'm sucked into the garden thing so deep, there is no getting out.
But congrats on wonderful 2013, and I hope 2014 is even more prosperous!!!
I have just learned so much about you guys! Some of you I have known for YEARS on here, and had NO IDEA!
Bob, that is quite an amazing story, and I hope you keep on sharing it. That is so important for all generations to hear.
I love my families' stories, but my husband's is quite amazing too...
Well I took a bunch of me days! I got through the holiday just fine. Got a little gunky again so back on meds, but other then that I took the rest of this week off from work and I have no responsibilities until Monday! Other then boring old dishes and laundry to put away. As its raining today...
Welcome!

I used to live in North Conway NH back in the day. I have to say, gorgeous summers..... but now I prefer my zone 7b all year round.
I blame it on the little trolls that follow humans around to make mischief. :bun
You see, little trolls and gnomes on occasion, move in with human families and follow us around watching for opportunities to upset the balance in our lives. It's easiest to do with animals, because well, animals...
Yep... sorry! :hide
I've been flaked out and in my own world for a bit. Honestly, I have no good excuse. I've been on the computer only for work purposes and I when I log off work, I close the laptop for the day. I've done the whole facebook thing from my phone since its such easy access and...
