@Bluejay77
Is Black Soldier one of Ernest B. Dana beans? It's on the list you made for me once. If so, will it ever be in your commercial or network catalog?
@Decoy1
I looked at the Sustainable Mountain Agriculture Center website and it also shows Old Joe Clark seeds in various shades. I guess this bean is like that. Were all the ripe pods red?
Grandma's Bean - pole
I had 8 plants. In addition to the correct seeds, I received two segregations and one outcross.
Grandma's Bean
Grandma's Bean segregation 1
Grandma's Bean segregation 2
Grandma's Bean outcross
I will show other beans next year, which will be quite soon :)...
Two landrace beans from Lithuania.
Gražiškės # 1 - bush
Big and nice seeds. Off-white color with ash-beige marble.
Grumbliai - bush
Rare seed color pattern with yellow swirls.
Finally, after almost two months, the sun appeared from behind the clouds and I had enough natural light to take photos.
First up, the Flowerbugs :)
Tinker's Fire - half runner
Sunrise - bush
Unfortunately, the place where this bean grew was too dry, which resulted in a low yield. The...
Weevils are mysterious and sneaky beasts. I once found them in a box of bean seeds that I grew in a third-floor apartment in the middle of the city. To this day I don't know where they came from. I doubt my neighbors grow beans indoors, I always thought they were serious people.
@Bluejay77,
Most often I use regular paper glue. If I don't additionally cover the box with adhesive tape, I use a two-component glue, e.g. Poxipol. I don't know if you can buy it in the US, but I'm sure there is something similar.
@Bluejay77
I'm glad that the parcel arrived safely and I'm grateful to you for the opportunity to grow many interesting beans in recent years.
As for the box, I used the one in which I received the beans from Germany. The size was just right. I often do this. I gently cut the box, turn it...
@Branching Out
If the weevils have not damaged the embryo, seeds with holes will germinate normally. I was checking it.
Of course, if they are riddled with holes like Swiss cheese, there is no point in sowing them
I have never managed to cut such a perfectly round hole without the appropriate tool, and this worm did it with his teeth or something like that. Does anyone else say that man is the most perfect creature on earth?
Are such thoughts a symptom of winter depression?:)
@Bluejay77
I managed to bag all my network beans today. Tomorrow I will correct the inventory list, print the missing labels and send the parcel on Tuesday. It will contain 30 packets in total.
@Decoy1
Did the pods of your Ooty India # 1 have a purple tint to them?
The seeds I collected have a more brown background, the color of the swirls is the same. Maybe it's because of my soil.
I wrote Ooty because that is the name under which I received this bean and that is the name of the...
@heirloomgal
I received information from @Bluejay77 that the green-yellow sticker for the returns package is valid only until December 11. That's why I postponed the photo session and now I'm shelling pole bean pods to send the seeds as soon as possible. You have a little more time than me...
Such situations happened to me too. If I didn't have other seeds, I sometimes sowed those with holes left by weevils. One or two holes do not affect germination as long as the embryo has not been damaged.
@heirloomgal, you collected beautiful seeds.
I'll probably start taking photos of my bush beans this weekend. I shelled all the pods. The seeds were already dry enough to freeze briefly. I always do this and that's why I don't know what a bean weevil is.
@heirloomgal
I'm glad you managed to multiply the seeds of this bean. I have to plant it next year. Now I wonder what percentage of the seeds I left for myself will germinate.
