It's official, my cash payment to Belgium for new beans got intercepted. I had included extra $$ in there too for him, to say thank you. Complete bummer. :(
Wouldn't a PayPal, Venmo or some sort of payment transfer company worked instead of cash? Then there is no envelope to open and steal your money. Everyone should have a PayPal account. I've been on PayPal for over 20 years.

@flowerbug do you want to try growing the Southwest Gold for sure? If yes I will send it out today.

no thank you. i will pass for now... i was really tempted by Good Daughter Stallard but reality is that i need to be more focussed so we'll see what bush beans are needing renewal for next year's growouts from the network collection next spring and i'll go from there.

Serenity - Pole dry. Discovered this in a bean three years ago that came from another discovered bean 10 years ago that I called Super Bean. A vigorous climber. I planted Serenity this year and didn't get any segregations so decided on this name. The seed colors are very subdued and I wonder if I allowed some seed to sit at room temperature if the light coloration will turn yellow or gold like that of a yellow eye. Harvested from 4 plants 9.65 ounces, 273 grams

Splash Trout - Pole dry. This bean was stunted all summer. It started to climb then stopped. Produced a few pods and a few nice seeds to go again with it next summer. Almost all the best seed is in the photo. This bean is an original named bean from the 1970's of former SSE member the late Ernest B. Dana of Etna, New Hampshire. He donated the bean to Wanigan Associates and I acquired it from Wanigan. Total seed harvested this summer 1 ounce, 28 grams.

Serenity - Pole

if you look closely at Serenity Pole is it a patterned pink like Dapple Grey or is it solid pale pink? or?

Monster has given me a Dappled Pink bush to semi-runner bean which seems to be stable enough but i have not really worked on it much since it came about and i replanted it only once or twice. like all the other light colors it does get darker with age/oxidation. since i don't freeze any beans for storage i don't know how much that helps keep beans from getting darker or not - but i would guess it probably does.

i don't have the patience for wading through websites or regulations. it is one thing i've always had a major block with dealing with gov't or authorities. i hit a page of gibberish and am not sure what i'm reading actually applies and i give up and go do something else, like right now i'm really liking my nap idea...

If the weevils have not damaged the embryo, seeds with holes will germinate normally. I was checking it.
Of course, if they are riddled with holes like Swiss cheese, there is no point in sowing them
Thanks for the suggestion Artorius! I will keep that in mind, especially if there are limited numbers of good looking seed. Fortunately this couple was so generous in giving me lots of pods, so I still had many unblemished seeds for saving.

I try to keep my digital footprint as small as possible. I'm willing to use those platforms as a one time service when I absolutely have to, but to open an account with them and give them that kind of access doesn't feel like the right move at this point.

You have to view this in light of the fact that our Finance Minister (and others) said back in Jan-Feb 2022 during the Freedom Convoy that if they find out that you supported Donald Trump they would lock down your bank account. (Ridiculous of course, Canadians don't vote in US elections.) Also, if you donated money to the Freedom Convoy they said they'd freeze your account. I had donated. This was a giant wake up call to the fact that a nation's laws & constitutional documents are basically just pretty pieces of paper. There was a mass exodus of cash from banks during that time and ATM's were locked down, big banks had online system crash. There was utter chaos in the financial sector because even higher ranking bank personnel didn't realize the government could just waltz in and demand a freeze on customer accounts because they don't like your opinion. The financial institution I deal with is carefully chosen, because some of us believe (*hope) that the government can't control certain ones as easily as others. I view all large financial platforms with great suspicion, especially in this country which is so utterly corrupt.
