    Runner Bug Invasion!

Oh I have seen those, apparently not in high enough numbers to cause a problem. I've seen the black, green, and striped beetles. Quite a catch-22 bug. They eat grasshopper larvae, but then they may take out your crop. :\ I read an article that mentioned their speedy swarm. Monitoring does not...

    Should We Talk, Cukes?

I have just 4 plants and DH takes a bag to work every couple of days. It is a nice sharing crop, til you can't find anyone to take them, like zucchini. I think I will freeze some cuke/onion/vinegar salad. That turned out pretty good last year. It's been raining for 3 days, can't imagine what...

    Organic garden

Makes my mouth water! Nice corn, @catjac1975 ! We had some last night for dinner, from the nursery/veg market down the road. Organic and real good stuff, but it always tastes better when you grow it yourself!

    Garlic question - bulbils?

A reasonable assumption @Pulsegleaner . The bulbils still mostly covered in the stem in the photo are light brown. The more exposed ones are darker purple. Some are actually quite large, close to the size of some of the cloves I planted last year. Maybe they are ready to be mamas! :) I will...

    Garlic question - bulbils?

Thanks! On the mature bulbs, the inside skins have some purple streaks but the clove is white. I was surprised at the purple also.

    Just Had a Good laugh

Well, she must be pretty good if she knows the difference between a weed and a flower. I get sticker shock looking for some used Legos for my grandson. I know the new sets are pricey, but this toy apparently does not depreciate. $8 - $10 per pound! He doesn't want sets, just a bunch he...

    Garlic question - bulbils?

Some of my Japan garlic developed some small bulbs up on the stem. I had removed the scapes at the curly stage, when they formed. These were 3-4 inches above the bulb. Are these bulbils also? Would you plant them?

Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

Great that you got a harvest the year after planting! I have 9 highbush and 1 lowbush, ( 5 varieties). I'm still not too sure about the pruning, hope I don't goof things up next year. It sounds so easy, then I look at the bush.

    Anyone Looking For Large Greenhouse?

Looks like I missed out on another good deal! Enjoy, @Smart Red ! :D Wonder what it would cost to heat? Wow, that would be great to have!

Celebrity tomatoes are what they say they are.

Glad you're having good luck with them,@jackb , nice looking bush! I grew Celebrity for years. They were productive and reliable, but they fell off my list as I grew more of the beefsteaks and tried more heirlooms. I had started some Celebrity this year. My DIL took most of them and I ran out...

    Okay, We are Toast

, omg, @murphysranch ! Thankfully they got it under control pretty quick! We were under voluntary evacuation, close to mandatory, a few years ago. It's a horrible feeling watching the plumes of smoke getting bigger! Also praying for all still dealing with the fires.

My summer garden classes for kids

What a great experience for 'your' kids, @thistlebloom . The gardens look terrific, and Holy cow look at those sunflowers! Very proud of your kids! But I think a little prouder of you, for planting a 'seed' that will grow on, long after the harvest... I keep in touch with a few of my former...

    Shrub ID help

It's a bit hard to see the detail of the flower, but by the shape of the shrub and bloom time, could it be some type of Autumn Sage ?

    What's Your Favorite Cafe?

Boy how times change huh? Bill even smoked while he cooked. There was always a full ashtray right next to the grill, until he realized some patrons did not appreciate that. This was a true, small town greasy spoon. The only restroom was through the kitchen, in the back storage room. (Looking...

    What's Your Favorite Cafe?

Really jogged my memory back in time @journey11 ! One of my first jobs was waitress at a small cafe called Bill's Gourmet Kitchen. Not sure about the 'gourmet', but Eggs Benedict was on the menu, so there ya go. :D Nobody ever ordered it and the cooks usually didn't even know how to make it. I...

    What's Your Favorite Cafe?

We don't go out to eat often, DH enjoys cooking too much. But we have a couple favorite places. Matthew's Cafe was a family run place that is now owned by a chef and his friend. Thankfully they kept the 'cafe' menu and food. Everything is homemade- breads, pies, even their strawberry/rhubarb...
