Can you post a closer up picture of the ducklings that appear to have crests? After looking through your photos it does look there could be a couple with a small crest.
Just imagine the most sour smelling kitchen garbage......plus poo. The only way to really describe them is SOUR. Their smell really makes it easy to dispatch them when the time comes in 8 weeks. As long as you keep on top of the mess and have lots of air flow, it isn't so bad. If I didn't do...
Yeah we just got about a foot of snow dumped on us after a week of 40+ degree days. So these little guys won't be going outside anytime soon. They will make it to the garage however...
Egg laying chickens smell better than ducks, but ducks smell FAR BETTER than meat chickens. I walked into the storage room this morning and almost fell flat from the stink the little 1 week old meaties have generated.
The meaties are still going strong. They are a week old and growing fast. I haven't lost a single one yet. I usually lose one in shipping and one the next day but not this time! Must be the luck of the Irish ;)
I try to not get too overwhelmed by their cuteness- but I took this picture the...
I had what seems to be a power surge on my largest heat mat which almost fried all my starts to a crisp. After nursing them back to health, this little guy took the long road to recovery. I call him "The little tomato that could"
Everything is looking good for everyone! One of these days I'll post more pictures of my seedlings.
p.s. Steve, I had a good laugh over your new signature :p
Look at that! Beautiful! My in-laws managed to turn their sugar sand garden into beautiful black soil over the last 10 years with goat and rabbit poo. Mine is getting there with all the cow poo I had hauled in and the large addition from my chickens.
I do about 200 birds a year. And yes, that is Maizy in my avatar as well. She's a good chicken herding egg sucking dog! I do not tractor my birds. They have a huge coop with a large enclosed run. It's a lot easier for me to raise them this way.
Yes we slaughter ourselves. We keep about 30 of them (whole, halved, pieced out) and sell the rest. That usually pays for ours and for the chicks the next time we order. It depends on when they are ready and what we have going on, but usually we do them all in a day. We have one person...
94 Cornish Cross broilers arrived today! All arrived happy and healthy. They are probably the liveliest chicks I've ever gotten. I am very happy with Schlecht Hatchery once again. They are a small family run business- this is my fourth time ordering from them.
I don't think you did anything wrong. More than likely it was a heart problem. Chickens can be very mysterious sometimes when it comes to illness. It's really too bad she went so young and I am very sorry for your loss. I know you treat your chickens well and with the utmost respect. :hugs
You can get a roll of 1,000 blank plant tags with a UV marker from Greenhouse Megastore for like $18 or something like that. That's what I bought last year and they kept the writing on them all season. I ordered more this year.
I took this picture a few weeks ago. It was my first seed to sprout in 2014. Now I have a ton- but I really like this picture for some reason. I took it with my cell phone even.
