    Fledgling Down!

Thanks peeps! Another blow to the smallholding occurs. A mink (or potentially a fox) got in and lobbed off the heads of my 5 beautiful hens. So sad. :( Revenge will be mine!

I came home from my night shift and the poor little fella had passed, cradled in my housemate's palm :(

    Fledgling Down!

I have been collecting grub insects for him. He seemed disinclined intitially but soon chirped up. He has a selection of seed, fat balls, strawberries (the victims of slugs) and worms/bugs etc. D'ya reckon this is okay? I hope he stays strong!

What did YOU do in your garden today :P

Lots of odd jobs and tackling the 'jungly' aspects of the garden. Always thinning out and eating at the moment though. Loving the parsnips today. Parsnip curry I reckon :)

What did YOU do in your garden today :P

Continued picking strawberries (couple of wild ones in there), and decided to make a fruit patch by cutting back the jungle that is one part of the bottom garden. I've dug a 10 x 6ft bed so far (probably 4 or 5 times that left to do). Planted 8 or so raspberries for an autumn crop, 3 currants...

They were indeed. They came over from the continent with the Normans. No farms here @baymule, that I know of anyway :)

Also, today I finally started uncovering the pond. It was so overgrown! I'm not sure what to do with it, but for now I''m cleaning it up, recycling the water and such. It is teeming with tadpoles and the like.

There are many deer in the UK @TheSeedObsesser & @baymule. They are normally beautful Red or Roe deer who are a pain in the bum and are very tasty! ;) Here's a pic of one at the bottom of my garden.

I have finished my protective frame and netting for my patch down the bottom garden, all recycled materials! :) I have to protect against rabbits, pheasants, pigeons, deer and cows! (Amongst others). There were fresh deer tracks again this morning..
