I have about 50x75 foot fenced in, plus berries and fruit trees elsewhere.
Ditto beavis' comment about the 4x8 beds -- I have six of them and they are too wide to work in effectively. It would be easy if they were waist high, but at 12-18" off the ground, I can't get into the middle of them...
I have 25 Freedom Rangers coming on Feb 17th! This will be our first foray into "real" meat birds -- we processed a few extra roosters last year, but they were hardly worth the effort.

Hm... I was going to suggest "The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl" -- but then I saw you said 'fiction'. It's not, but it's still a good read (or, in my case, listen.) I had *no* idea (1) how bad it was or (2) how it happened.
The same...
I'm still afraid of my pressure canner, (it's still in the box!) but on my list is to do another batch of ten-bean soup and give it a try.
This one: http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/slow-cooker-easy-multi-bean-soup (only with lots more pepper, it's pretty bland as written.)
I usually...
Consider building some sort of structure to hold shade cloth, or your plants will bake and much of the water you put on them will evaporate!
(I lived in Chandler for 10+ years and tried growing tomatoes in our south-facing back yard *once*. After that I concentrated on citrus -- I miss my...
I have one, too. Like the peat pots, the newspaper pots want to dry out so you have to make sure to keep them watered, but other than that I like them well enough.
I bought a bunch of six-pack cells and trays from Farmtek and I reuse the cells until they tear or get too crumpled, and that's...
Remember when they ALL used to fit in the back of the nest box?

After getting lots of good advice on this thread, I have 4' shop lights and just use florescent bulbs labeled "daylight" or "sunlight". Look for the number of lumens on the package -- you want a high number for seed starting.

I've been happy with Park Seed, but I have a stack of at least a dozen seed catalogs. Gurney's, Vermont Bean, Johnny's, Southern Exposure, Baker Street, Seed Saver's, Totally Tomatoes... pick one (or more!) I'm surprised you haven't made it on their mailing lists yet. :)
Actually if you just...
They won't all fit in one picture anymore. :)

We replaced the sliding glass door on the house, so I have the glass panels from the old one.
I thought I might use them for something like a cold frame... but they are big and heavy. I'd have to build a sturdy frame and get some kind of device to help open it and hold it up. I think there's...
And the verdict is... yes, they can get back in just fine over the tall sides. :D They still spend most of their time in the nest box, but they come out to hop around and chew on everything before bouncing back in.
