yeah, they generally stay pretty full! We live on a ranch so we are always butchering a cow, or sheep or chickens here...but getting away to replace a freezer is the trick! LOL
Thanks for the tip though, I will be really diligent about making sure there is no empty space!

I put up chili, vegetable soup and minestrone soup. I just don't add the macaroni to the minestrone until I re-heat it on the stove. YUM YUM

btw, love your blog I've signed up for emails. You have a great place, a place that dreams are made of.

I'm still afraid of my pressure canner, (it's still in the box!) but on my list is to do another batch of ten-bean soup and give it a try.

This one: http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/slow-cooker-easy-multi-bean-soup (only with lots more pepper, it's pretty bland as written.)

I usually just freeze it in single serving portions, and often add grilled chicken or leftover pot roast to it when I re-heat it.

thanks r4eboxer! We love it here and the family we work for is amazing as well. It just doesn't get better than this. I need a recipe for a good minestrone

Hi Petey,

Haven't been on here in a while, I will get my soup recipe out and post it as soon as I get home. I forgot to bring it in to work today to post for ya. It's delicious and my DH favorite soup. The recipe comes from a fire house kitchen and it really is the best I have ever tasted. The restaurant Minestrone soups NEVER measure up!

This thread is making me want to make some Stuffed Pepper Soup, hmm maybe I'll make some tomorrow. I've never tried canning it but I suppose I could and leave out the rice until reheating time.

Your blog makes me want to pack up my stuff and come help you out on your ranch! Gosh I'd love to be able to do the things with milk and cream you do. I want a milk cow so so so bad but we are not ready for one yet. Need to get a barn first. We have @ 30 acres and are hoping to homestead the way you and Randyman are.
