We refreshed our stock this past fall, so we didn't get many eggs over the winter. Yesterday out of 8 hens I got 6 eggs. The silkies I don't count as much because they hardly ever lay eggs... LOL
No, they weren't daffodils. There were some calas, some gladiolas, and I forget what the other were.. how scary is that? I just planted them yesterday!! LOL I REALLY hope the calas come up, they're my FAVORITES! Hubby bought me an asian lilly last year and we put it in a big pot on the front...
@secuono are those standard rex? They are next to impossible to find here in southern NC! What colors do you have?
As far as starting seeds we have a 5 tier wire rack that we attached lights to. We didn't use plant lights or anything like that because we'll put them outside WAY before they need...
I wish we had more space to actually get enough to can! My sister bought me a beautiful pressure canner for my birthday last year and I haven't even used it yet! :ep Hubby SWEARS that he and the boy are going to go hunting this year, so maybe I'll get to can some deer and bear! I've never had...
Hmmm... well.. I think the thing I'm most looking forward to this year is brussel sprouts! :p None of us have ever tried them, so, on a whim we bought a 4 pack at our local feed store. We figured, it's $2, why not! We were going to plant 2 beds with flowers, but, only 1 bed will be used for...
I dunno! I would send him your way, but I'd miss him too much! :p
Today he was helping till beds and clear brush out from behind the garden area. He found a couple more fire any colonies as so we had to nix the garden work. Lol Then we worked in the flower beds for a while. Lots of bare spots...
So, I was looking for some of my garden tools today and I found 3 packs of flower bulbs that we bought on clearance and forgot to plant! They're completely dry now. Do you think if I planted them they would come back this year?
Mmmmmmmmm!!!!!! It depends on the TYPE of mushroom!! We take button mushrooms and pop out the stems, chop them (the stems) up, and fry it up with some sage sausage, mix it with some cream cheese and stuff the mushrooms, then we top it with some cheese and pop them in the over. DELISH!
@Smart Red Ooooooooooooh I'm SO envious!!!!!!! All of my friends back home are posting about how it's almost mushroom season and I'm SO jealous! LOL
@Nyboy oh yes... me too... LOL We may or may not have hunted those a few times in my youth as well... ;)
I've told my son that he's never allowed to move away... so he said that he would build a tiny house in the back yard and live in it.. and that when we get old that we could move into the tiny house and he would move his family into the "main house." (Of course, this all would depend on us...
Since moving to the south I haven't gone mushroom hunting like we did while I was growing up (mostly in my teen years!) so I haven't had any morel mushrooms in several years. I just found a kit to grow morel mushrooms online in the last couple of days. I'm trying to convince hubby to buy it for...
EEEEEEWWW!!!!! I DO live in the south and I can't do collards! BLECK! I was talking to my uncle once and he told me that I needed to pick some up because they make you poop :gig
@Nyboy Oh we already have that started and even some plants in the ground!! ;) I have some broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and some butterhead lettuce in the ground already, with more broccoli, cauliflower (which has PURPLE heads that turn lime green when cooked), and lettuce to come...
