I have one that I planted 5 years ago. It started producing lightly in the third year, and we got a couple bushels last year. They were delicious! Especially when I saw them in the store for $4.99 a pound.
We're trying hard to become "family farmers" here on our four acres. It's not a lot of land, but we have been able to get some good fruits and veggies, and we grew enough to give away food this year to people who needed it.
The book is 40 years old? Well that explains why I haven't found it yet, but I'm going to keep on looking.
I love these whimsical houses that are all odd angles and strange constructions. One of these days, if ever I get time to try, I'm going to see if I can build something like that in...
Never heard of this before, and never canned. My first thought was that it might make the canning fluid too alkaline, when it needs to be acidic to preserve the food. I'll bet a good search of ye olde internet would provide some tips on brightening the veggie colors, tho.
I was on the waiting list and got a pack of 50 seeds. I felt like I won the lottery! (well at least $10 on a scratch off ticket) The packet was $7.95, but I figured it was worth it to support such a great organization and to have beautiful corn to encourage my kids to garden. Although they...
So glad to hear that your doctor has been instrumental in helping you feel better. Chemo is a &*!@* to get through; I watched my daughter deal with it when she was only 15. To see her today, 25 years later, you'd swear she never had a sick day in her life.
Glad you are feeling better!
(Awestruck by HotPepper's fairy gardens!)
I've been collecting stuff from the 2nd hand stores and the grounds to start a fairy garden. Guess it's about time, now that I have all these inspirational photos to look at. I'm planning on using a lot of sweet alyssum as surroundings for the yard...
Ooh, I like it! Especially that steep roof that I just know I would fall off of about 10 times if I ever tried to build it. The bottom part of the door looks exactly like some of the boards I've been saving for "something."
Now where did I put my hammer?
"The suit filed in Johnson County District Court said the couple and their two children a 7-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son were "shocked and frightened" when deputies armed with assault rifles and wearing bulletproof vests pounded on the door of their home around 7:30 a.m. last April...
Wow, your patience and determination are amazing! I don't know if I could have kept at it for over 2 years, but your results are surely worth the effort.
We have feral cats that get into our chicken run. We worried about it for a while until we realized that the cats consider the hens their...
Wow, I love all the info on this thread, and I'm glad I'm not the only one charmed by the little crooked house.
I'm going to try to make something similar, about 15-18" tall, as a display piece in a tiny cottage garden. I feel like I'd be able to call it a success if it holds together when...
I have been working at/from home since the end of 2000. I do data collection, editing, merchandising and mystery shopping. I used to manage a big convenience store and drove 2 hours commute time a day. Do the math; 10 hours a week of commuting x 50 weeks a year=500 hours. 500 hours/40 = the...
Hey, thanks for the info about the book!
Yeah, I figured this would be harder than a typical all-right-angles shed to build. I mean, heck, even I can screw five same-sized boards together to make a basic box, but this! This took skill!
And, Journey, I'm with you. Those branch hand rails...
I would just love to make a few little buildings like this! I could picture one for a hen house, one for a tool shed, and one tiny one for a whimsical little frog/toad/turtle/fairy house. I found the image on facebook.
