None of my beds are raised. However, I did grab the sensor/probe out of the coop and set it at 3 different depths of my veggie garden.
2 inches 51.6 f
6 inches 50.2 f
12 inches 49.8 f
I think I am going to plant more peas today and if I get the soil dug up and smoothed out enough, I may...
That's where I am now. I dragged my lounge chair out of the garage and am sitting on the deck in the shade, pups laying nearby, guineas free ranging, while I sip lemonade and wonder if this is all a dream. But I see my pond is still frozen though there are pot holes and a huge crack in it. There...
Chickflick's last post on the whole site was on 08/10/2009 8:24 pm. I don't think she comes around here anymore. However, she is still posting on BYC. I've put several invites on the Michigan thread as y'all probably know. (And thank you so much for coming!) But I guess it's hard for most people...
I have no idea what my soil temp is as I don't have an appropriate thermometer to test it with, though maybe the one in the coop with the attached sensor probe might work? Supposedly it is used for water temps....
But I planted some pea seeds today, just 12 feet of row. I figure plant some...
Had a high of 79.1 at my house but I think it may have been hotter, but I can't move the sensor as its attached to the one inside the coop. It's on the outside through the window. I did plant some snow peas today. I think I'm going to have to get out the garden hoses because there is no sign of...
Just checked the 10 day forecast and no sign of winter returning in the next 10 days. Next weekend it's saying 55 and 59 but that is still warmer than average. The nights though will finally be dropping back into the 30s so I'm definitely not going to be putting out anything that can be damaged...
Thanks for all the tips GG. I really can't remember what I did with the sweet peas when I lived in northern VA, I don't think I soaked them, but I truly can't remember! I did plant them in the back yard at the base of the deck, around the posts holding it up. maybe the pressure treated lumber...
I dug up 12 square feet inside my veggie garden and the foot outside the fence on the 3 sides. Man that grass that spreads by runners is nasty stuff to remove! But I should be able to plant a bunch of snow peas tomorrow.
btw high at my house today was 77.5. It made the digging hot sweaty work...
I've never been able to grow sweet peas. Though I haven't tried in years. Last time I lived in northern VA. Have no idea what I did wrong. About the only vining thing I can grow is snow peas. Tried pole beans once, they didn't grow either. I like sweet peas, but they don't like me.
Rather unusual for this far north at this time of year, but I'm out in my garden today, digging the weeds out of the west side of the bunny proof veggie garden. I've bought a bunch of snow peas, more than usual and I will probably get a bunch in the ground before the weekend is out. it's 77...
Good morning! May not post much today, with a 75 prediction and it's already 64, I may try digging up my veggie garden in preparation for good stuff!
It's good to drink what you like!
Don't have any gardening plans today. Have let the guineas and Mr Duck free range. Not letting momma and the kids out, the ducklings are too small and while Ziggy is pretty good about the adults, I think a fluffy bite size morsel could be too tempting...
Generally concord grapes will give you a sweet white, at least the one called Niagra from ST Julian's Winery in MI does. But maybe they don't leave the skins in as long.
I ordered 10 black elderberry seedlings from my conservation district office. DH has made elderberry wine and I've made...
Well I've planted my seeds indoors a month early, usually can't set anything out till the first week of June, often have had 3 or 4 killing frosts the last week of May. But I am only putting them outside with protection. Got some walls of water I haven't used in years. I was amazed when I dug a...
Interesting info M. sue, thanks. As I am the only one who eats grapes they often go moldy on me before I can finish so I almost never buy any . Concord makes a pretty sweet wine, just so you know. There are other grapes for making drier wines, but if you prefer sweet wine, go for it.
btw my...
Finally planted some seeds in flats today. Unfortunately, I discovered the "soil" I bought wasn't seed starter but a more peaty mix, hopefully, it will still work okay.
Tomatoes:
Glacier
Stupice
Moskovich
Marmande
Black Cherry
Sweet Millions
Martino Roma
Tumbling Tom red and yellow
Big...
I just planted one seed flat with tomatoes and peppers and a few flowers. Resting before the next one. It's hit 73.5 in northern Michigan today. Crazy! But no way I'm planting anything outside yet. Peas and lettuce is just gonna half to wait till April 1st just in case.
Good Morning Gardeners! :happy_flower
Another lovely day shaping up out there, already 48.9 degrees and it seems to be climbing fairly fast. Predicted high for the Alpena area is 68 with a chance of T-storms but nothing on the radar so far. Yesterday I took out my trusty spade fork (can't think...
