I Know Why They are Called Chickens

There is nothing worse than eye pain (well I guess there is but its SO aggravating). I sure hope you are doing better. They think I got cleaner in one of my eyes (wasn't sure) but the entire white part was a big giant blister and when I would blink it would ooze up like a balloon between my eye...

    rose hips?

Funny my neighbor hollered over last night asking me about his rosehips (old climbing rose on the porch that was planter by previous owner and they are huge and orange/red, look like tiny apples so we ate one and it was good. LOL) So I think I'll investigate these websites you all posted and...

    Zinnias

I never deadhead my profusion zinnia except when gathering seed heads and by fall they are a giant mound of nothing but colorful blooms (mine have been blooming for weeks). They never look messy and just to me are the best zinnia to grow for long lasting color.

Curly Kate, I'm right above Lexington, KY and I planted some of the little primrose last fall, by golly, there was a bit of snow on the ground and what was blooming but that primrose (I thought they were houseplants only for us LOL) and I love the helleborus, the winter rose. It blooms too but...

I tried growing the morning glory bush this year from seed (cute furry little seeds) but never could get any of them to germinate. Not sure what I did wrong.

    Advice request

Just remember with it being raised and in sun you will have to water it a bit more but if you put wood chips down (I put leaves and then the chips) it will help retain moisture. I would tuck in the very back against the house a few bulbs for spring, I suggest some rudbeckia, coneflower...

    Over Wintering Annual Geraniums

I know an older gentlemen who literally has around 100 geraniums (in Canada) and he lifts his, shakes off all the dirt (air dry) and puts them upside down in a box and closes it. He said mid-winter he goes up and trims off all the dead and any soft spots, lets them drink and then puts them back...

    Questions About Purple Fountain Grass

I brought my little pot in last winter and stuck it upstairs (stays cool up there but not freezing). It took a bit to get it growing again but it has tripled in size and I may try splitting it next year cause I'll bring it back in again. I was wondering about the seeds too.

    Fall Planting

Rabbits did a job on my fall plants I started from seeds (stinking wabbits) so I have went back and bought 4 plants and am thinking of putting them in window boxes so I can drag them in the greenhouse upon first frost and keep them up off the ground so they can't munch the leaves down to nubs...

    Cabbage Worms

I had HUNDREDS of the cabbage moths and they were drawn to my brocolli. I did have netting over my strawberries and a few stray kale plants were in there, so they'd get under that netting and WOOHOO easy to rub between my hands and kill them. Even soaking my broccoli in saltwater I still had...

    Green Beans

I've been eating tendergreens but just this past weekend I got a huge load (first cause I got them out late) of white half runner beans, I could founder on them. LOL But I had other things going on and didn't have time to put them up (company) so I sold $5 worth, I thought I was all that and a...

I am so mad, I could spit!!

So glad it wasn't as bad as you originally felt it was. Mine went out last year, I lost SO much and just stood and cried at all the work that went into all that. It was hot inside by the time I realized it. So glad you caught yours in time to refreeze some stuff at least.

    Need Kale recipes

Ninnymary, I think it all depends on what type of sausage you are using as to the spice it has too. We have a man who makes homemade sausage here that has a kick to it so it always is spiced up but I notice store bought ones just don't have the spices this man puts into his. But its a good...

    Need Kale recipes

Journey, I brought a pot of this to work one day (kept it hot in my crockpot - blistery cold winter day and no one wanted to go out). Couple girls said ewwww, what is that green stuff, told them kale and turned their nose up but didn't want to go outside to find lunch, BOTH of those girls came...

    Green Beans

Marshall, we always called those shucky beans (think my family always used white half runners but they just strung and broke them and put them in between two window screens in a single layer (so flies/bugs can't get on them) and let them dry and put them in the big gallon glass jars. Mom and...

    Need Kale recipes

So lucky I never liked them either then last year I grew some and thought what will I do (the kale chips IMO were awful, maybe I messed them up) but that soup, OH MY, you talk about good, I caught myself picking the kale out and eating it. Its SO good for you, tender from the garden you can mix...
