If you've got lots of buckets, I think I would probably cut all the bottoms off, set the first bucket down, fill mostly with soil, plant your potato, and set another bucket on top to "hill". I'd think tho that it might not get enough light. Bucket rings? Slice buckets up into sections?
I've...
Well, the owner says the vines are thriving, and the pic from a couple years ago sure looks good, so I'm guessing that if I screw up the first batch of cuttings, I can probably get more.
I can't imagine this is the ONLY VINE LEFT EVER, particularly if Bob's friend has 800 acres in. :) But...
Well, see, I know the address, of course, and can just write a letter.
But, the original purchaser is still the owner. And I know who that is (as googling the address returned the current business license). So I poked around and found his email.
I'm going to see if he minds if I take some...
Theoretically, anyway.
To avoid continuing to hijack the Fruit Salad Tree thread, I'm'a just put this over here.
Backstory: I grew up in Eugene, Oregon. I spent a great deal of time at my Mom's parents' house, riding my pony and running around and climbing the mimosa tree and snacking on...
God... it's still there. Depending on what's happened since Google street views made it out into the sticks (August 2011).
And now I'm crying about a darn grape vine. ::sniffle::
My OTHER Grandfather did think they were Thompson Seedless, in a conversation we had several years ago. It's possible they traded cuttings, as my Dad's dad had an orchard and such in his yard as well, and made a fair amount of wine in the late 70's (Peach 77 was a particularly sought after...
Unfortunately, my weedy asparagus is right on the fence, in the very corner where my compost is. So, I've been inadvertently doing so for a couple years now, and no improvement in size. I have noticed an increase in weedy asparagus tho. Where the neighbor didn't Round-Up it, anyway.
My grandfather had an apple tree that was mostly red (?), with a branch or two of Golden Delicious grafted on. It seemed to survive for several years, but I don't recall how well it produced. I do remember the big gold apples, but not what the other apples were supposed to be. I was much...
I personally have experienced improvement with TCM techniques.
Jin Shin Jyutsu - Manipulation of energy in the body through contact (no needles, no pressure) - Improvement in sports related injuries, rapid healing time
Acupuncture - LOVE IT. Don't understand it, but love it. Went in for...
Oh, yeah... determinates and indeterminates. :) Those things. Since most heirlooms are indeterminate, and I'm no longer planting in containers on a 240sf balcony, I've kinda forgotten about that aspect. :)
It's not just a movie. Sigh.
From the Author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies:

He also wrote Burton's "Dark Shadows". Which was...
I'm no expert on seed saving, but I've been looking into it. For the price I paid for the heirloom plants I ordered, I'm'a save some of those seeds. Even if they cross, the hybrids should be interesting.
Tomato blossoms are "perfect", meaning they've both male and female pollens inside. Or...
I couldn't decide if "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" or "Expendables 2" was worse. Both are among the most terrible movies I've ever seen. And they're big-budget!
Jealous. :)
I have asparagus crowns around the perimeter of my garden. They were planted long before I got here. I keep trying to dig 'em all out, but the fence is in the way. I've never managed to spot a teeny edible shoot before it's 24" tall, super thin, and woody. I've only spotted one...
That's why I axed. :)
Thanks for the insight. The description was intriguing, but when I ordered it, there was surprise at the other end of the phone. Most current heirloom names I've at least skimmed past on Tomatoville, but I don't recall ever having seen Dagma's before.
When you're in New Orleans, they do. I just whacked 'em all down again with a machete. Some of them were 4' tall (we skipped winter this year). They like it humid.
Clearly you've never heard of FERRET LEGGING. :ep
http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/out-of-bounds/The-King-of-the-Ferret-Leggers-20120718.html
On January 1 I started:
Paul Robeson
Costoluto Genovese
Homestead
SunGold
Green Zebra
But then the contractor I'd hired in November decided to finally start painting my house and re-working the back porch. So my seedlings sprouted outside, and promptly went inside to languish in the dark...
Soooo.... If I plant at 18", drill holes in the sides of my planter above that for some side shoots (selection and direction of these seem to be key), keep burying the rest of the plant ("hilling", probably within a bit of reed fencing I hope the contractor hasn't taken away today), I'll get the...
I'd been planning on building the potato tower... until I saw Durgan's photos proving this method a fallacy. http://www.durgan.org/URL/?QHBIN
So now, in planters. I've got several square planters that are 24x24x24. Are these big enough? Durgan's Red Pontiac potatoes look like they would...
