I don't have flies in my mint ... and I have LOT. I think all the flies are on the back porch trying to get into the house. To join the other 486 flies that are already in the house:barnie
As for the mint, cut the blooms (just remember the bees and butterflies love that mint too;))
I have Bees! 2 hives! Sadly I lost my 1st during that hideous horrible nasty insanely awful winter we had. The bees are just going gang busters right now. I live amongst the corn fields, but they are bringing in loads of pollen and nectar: they are making honey like little Bosses! Those tiny...
I am about 6 mls east of Carol Dee, so we get together a LOT (Lucky me!)
I have one veggie/herb garden & several flower gardens & stuff planted everywhere!
I do remember checking TEG out back in '11 but had toooo much going on & I don't actually remember joining o_O - (too much time in the herb garden - JK?)
Thanks journey11! I'll do that.
The Delicious are a bit bland for pies or apple sauce. We like the Mac's for that. The Transparents are just SO good, but we usually don't get very many. I have been eating them right off the tree already ;)
We are going to (do have, already!) more apples than you can shake a stick at!
Does anyone have great ways to preserve apples?
I have had trouble finding an Apple Jam or Jelly that we really like, also. Any suggestions?
BTW we have a Macintosh, a Delicious and a Transparent.
Beautiful trees!!! When we moved to our place, all we had were 3 old cottonwoods and 1 misshapen old cedar. Those cottonwoods ("the Girls", Stella, Della and Noreen) are now my favorite trees.
YES! And ... fresh mown hay ... the cow/hay barn ... the corn field on a hot humid day ... the gravel road after a rain ... fresh plowed dirt ...
Ooops. That would be smells!
I had a friend who was sent out into the cornfield at night to chase the cows out (they had shoved open a gate into the cornfield) They were Angus. He got about 5 yards in, heard stomping and crashing ... he started stomping and crashing - out of the cornfield!! He always said that was when he...
"Freezer Camp" A friend of my son's had ducks as a 4H project. When they were raised and butchered he wrote their names on the package as it went into the freezer. So they knew "who they were eating", he said. Sick child.
I really like the concept of edible landscaping! I have used variegated Thyme, Pineapple Sage, various ornamental Peppers. I also have a short but steep slope behind the house that I am using Chocolate Mint as a ground cover on.
