I didn't realise you could can a 1/2 jar of something...because of the headspace requirement.
I'm a new canner and am still trying to figure out everything!
Gonna try DILL pickles today - got a peck of un-pickled cukes at roadside stand just now.
NOT going to use the Ball mix (oh no no no - can you tell I'm very anti-that stuff!? heheee) but have a few recipes and will whittle down the selection to one.
I'll post a photo when I'm done!
And again...
Thanks OCF. I don't see any on our property, but I'll grab my DH and we'll do a thorough check-up this weekend.
I really don't want to pay for a wild animal inspector /trapper person to come out if we have none on the property, you know?
Does anyone know how to tell if one has skunks living on their property?
Skunks have been around and about the neighborhood (ESP the last coupla nights...man oh man...)
But how can I tell if they are living on MY property? If so I want to get rid of them fast!:o
Thanks!
I opened a jar of pickles that I canned a few weeks ago. Yummy! Now, how long do I have to eat them all up?
Same with the jam I made.
Since there's no preservatives in them, I'm assuming I cannot leave them in there for a long time.
Another reason (I believe) I'll need to can in 1/2 pints...
you should try continental/german-style knitting - if you're a crocheter, this style may work easier for you - it did for me...I couldn't knit a stitch doing the 'american/english' way, but doing the continental way, it just clicked.
Here's a great site so you can see how to do it...
Thanks Laura!! I had been so discouraged, thinking I really messed up with the pickles. :bouquet
When I wiped off one of the jam jars, the lid went "clipop" and sealed so I freaked that I sealed it by force, and had to make sure I didn't mess things up.
So firstly, here's a photo of the b&b pickles I made from the Ball package last week (which, btw, I gave away all the rest of my Ball pickle mix, because I still find the directions irritating and confusing.) As you can see, I didn't pack enough in, as they're all floating. I haven't tried...
Hey Pat - I just got that book (since there's only two of us here at the house at the moment)! I was hoping someone had tested some of the recipes! Thanks for posting this.
