I have started using cheap tomato cages upside down for a lot of stuff produce and floral in my garden.
I nip the stakes off the "bottom" and then I nip off the "top" most ring to create new stakes.
I'll let you know how it goes when the plants get larger. Right now they're still 4" pot size.
Why do you suppose that is? My kids' friends have called me by my name since they were little guys. By my choice.
If someone is disrespectful then that's something to discuss and put limits on. But using my name is merely an expression of approachability and friendship. I'm all for it!
Yup! She says her tomato lady is Peggy. And Peggy's supposed to bring tomato plants to market in 2-3 weeks.
As you say, small world and ain't that fun!
I think my friend's tomato lady may be named Peggy. I've certainly heard her name before -- I even met her once when I was visiting and we stopped at the Farmers' Market. I just can't remember exactly. But I sent my bud a note to check.
It would be fun to find out that you guys know the same...
The Sunday School thing is no biggie. It's someone else's opinion and they are fully entitled to it. I just don't want to hear it every time I refer to climate change.
Peppers. I grow them in the ground but never had them come back so strong before. I have jalepeños ready for picking and...
Not San Diego. Los Angeles up by the Ventura County line.
I am gardening something about 20 yards by 30 yards. The yard's bigger (about 1/2 an acre) but I don't do much with the front and thank god the pool and pool deck don't require weeding or planting. My small bit of backyard green is...
It has been a busy (and expensive!) couple weeks in SoCal. Let's see if I can remember all we've done -- that's me and my 7yo grandson/assistant:
Planted
• 3 tomatoes -- Black from Tula, Black Cherry and San Marzano
• 1 zucchini
• 2 six packs of Oregon Giant peas
• 2 six packs of some sort...
Not in the least! Truth is we always seem to be first and it gets so hot here in a few months that it's best to get all the heavy work done ASAP and then tweak, water and try to save things through the hot months.
Used to be I was rushing putting tomatoes in in February. Now they're ready...
I know some of us live in different worlds. But I'm stoked and hoped to connect with someone else who is too.
Does it help to know that we'll have triple digit heat and probably water rationing at some point?
It's beautiful here in SoCal!
I've been out all week cleaning up the debris of last year's garden and the carcasses of what didn't make it through the Winter. And I've been planting, planting, planting. With much more to go in the next couple weeks.
I hope to get all my planting done as...
My husband and I have driven from Los Angeles to Vancouver in BC a number of times over the last 4 years. We've seen first hand the damages done to the forests of the NW. It's depressing and scary. And, apparently, we're in for a new drought cycle so you'll be grateful for that well!
Where is Winchester? I'm in Woodland Hills in the Los Angeles burbs.
There can be a tremendous difference in the soil and microclimates in places that are just 5 miles apart so it's very difficult to say what you'll find in Winchester. What do your neighbors' yards look like? They may give...
