Another vote for silver, silver on a man is really sexy .

Now ladies, the older we get the more winkles we develop, I look at them as badges of honor for getting though raising three kids without any scars.
Just my opinion but, ladies dyed hair especially the darker colors on older women accentuates those badges of honor, and good god I wish they'd lay off the heavy makeup and bright red lipstick, makes them look like, well, not going to say, and those perfumes, I think they bathe in them, a little dab will do you.

Sure I colored my hair when I started turning grey with as close a match as I could but not with anything permanent, the reason, my hair color was starting to look like dirty dishwater. As soon my hair was mostly grey I stopped, I don't wear makeup either but do try to take care of my skin with moisturizers and such, sunscreen in the summer.
I'm old and decrepit now but people still are surprised at how old I really am when they find out.

When DW asks my advice about makeup (a woman should never back her loving spouse into such a no-win situation), I tell her that all she needs on her face is a smile. Beauty comes from within, regardless of age.

Yes, @Nyboy sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings... but yes, you are getting old. It's a dead giveaway when they call you by your last name, or say "Mr." (to which you counter with "young lady" or "young man" to accentuate your exalted status). If they call you "Sir", count your blessings. Courtesy is a vanishing thing these days, and in dire need of cultivation; so be sure to respond in kind.

i vaguely recall the first time a child called me mister.

when i worked at the library and had long hair once in a while someone would call me miss or lady. and then i'd turn around and laugh.

i noticed a long time ago, within a few years of going to college, that all the incoming students looked like they were 12yrs old.

i still feel the same as i did as a kid. i love this world and all the life in it.

It gives me hee bee jee bees when my Mother's friends, whom I've know since the mid 70's ask me to call them by their first name. They always have and will be "Mrs. X". Drive me nuts when kids call adults by their given name. What happened to respect for elders, like you? I like it, Nyboy.

Why do you suppose that is? My kids' friends have called me by my name since they were little guys. By my choice.

If someone is disrespectful then that's something to discuss and put limits on. But using my name is merely an expression of approachability and friendship. I'm all for it!

Let your hair go silver @Nyboy , I agree with @aftermidnight on that. Could be the season of life I'm in though, haha. I have noticed myself noticing older (silver in hair) guys as hunky, and then step back and wonder where did that come from?

My husband would be silver if he had hair, but he has a big ol' manly silver beard, and he's quite the hunk too.

@Collector , I like your beard. Reminds me of a badger , (badgers are cool!)

Nyboy, take the respect and smile. About the sliver, leave it alone. Now mind you, that sage bit of advice is coming from someone who started graying at age 12. I didn't color my hair until I was 27, then I was hooked. I kept it dark brown until my mid 30's, by that time it was white. After two weeks, I had a skunk stripe and looked like road kill. I just wasn't ready to be white headed.....

So I colored my hair red. people's attitude changed toward me immediately, it was crazy. So I changed my attitude and never went back. Anyhoo, after years of being a red head, I just got tired of coloring my hair. So I let it grow out.

At 62, I have long pure white hair that sparkles in the sunshine. I've decided I like it.

Enjoy the sir and the Mister. And enjoy the beautiful silver hair.

I greyed early 30's and dyed it the next 20. I haven't bothered with it for many years. You get to the point where you say to heck with it. I'm all silver now, but still have a full, thick, head of hair.


It did bother me when It first happened cause I used to have bright shiny hair. People would ask how I got it so shiny and I didn't know what to tell them cause I didn't do anything except shampoo it.

When I stopped coloring my hair, my kids weren't too happy about it. Said I was too young to go gray, but I was indeed going gray so I guess it has no age attached to it. I just knew I didn't want to lie anymore, to me and to everyone else.

Everyone I knew got mad about it, particularly my older sisters who still colored their hair...I guess this removed all doubt they were old if the youngest is gray? Funny, if that was their thought processes. People at work got mad about it...I guess it revealed their ages too. News flash, ladies...everyone knows you are old ladies who dye their hair!

So, years down the road I'm growing more and more silver by the day...in my brown hair it comes off looking pewter, which isn't as attractive as silver but I'll take it all the same. One day my middle son was sitting with me in the sunshine and, out of the blue sky he comments, "Mom, I'm glad you went gray...your hair looks so pretty in the sunlight." That one comment was worth all the bad ones I received when I started down that silver road.

NY, keep your silver...it looks great on men, especially. And the respect from youngsters? Keep it too...it's a rarity nowadays and should be savored.

I have no grandchildren to "spoil."

The moustache hair was the first to go grey. I was rather committed to it because it had been hanging around on my face for about 20 years. The first facial hair I could grow and was all that was left after I shaved off my 70's beard ... I guess I had gone from trying to look like Buddy Holly to George Harrison, with a bearded decade while in transition.

At one time, I was a little embarrassed by the contrast of the white moustache but the eyebrows and sideburns caught up with it, finally. When I knew that I would be at an event when pictures would be taken, several times I tinted the moustache. Vanity. It work fine except the last time when the contrast was extreme! Winter bleached skin behind a painted on moustache! Silliness and Never Again.

The children are great. I see lots with my front door view of a school playground. The neighbor next door has 2 little granddaughters. They sometimes pay some attention to what I'm up to.

I'm waiting for my DD to begin going grey. The job is nearly complete on DS. She is likely to be vain about it and with a little round face and big eyes, she will look childlike in her olde age. He is old enuf to be a grandfather, already! How did that happen? Just lucky, aren't we?

Young people. NyBoy, there should come a time when parents look like children to you. Oh, it will be great! You will feel that the world is being renewed!
