I am so glad I tried beets this year. They taste great and are doing well, they are lovely in the garden, I'm going to try some this fall in the greenhouse.

Tonight is a garden dinner night.... Fried green maters, sauteed beet and collard greens, roasted beets, jalapeno cornbread and rhubarb pie. Odd combo huh? But all from my garden ('cept the cormeal, flour and olive oil :) )

Uh maybe I'm missing something, but you replanted potatoes you just harvested this past weekend? Were they sprouted already? I'm not sure that they will grow if they aren't somewhat sprouted, I've only been growing potatoes for 4 years so I could be way wrong on this. Just...

Oh that is one of my favorites :drool In fact the first time I made it I brought it out for dessert and my son asked what kind of pie I had made. I said it is a surprise taste it, he gave me a kinda funny look and tasted. He immediately declared it the best apple pie I had ever made and...
I was crawling around weeding today and I poked around in the dirt and I have garlic!! I'm so happy :) as soon as the tops start dying back I'll start pulling.
I have bought seed potatoes from gurneys, Wood Prairie Farm and territorial Seed, all are online. If any of your potatoes sprout you can plant them. If you have a organic farmers market near you maybe you can get some there. Good Luck

Thankyou HiDelight for all the good info. I need to do some serious weeding in all the gardens tomorrow so I'll sneak a peek then. I did find a couple garlic suppliers here in CO, so come Oct I hope I'll be putting some interesting varieties in the ground.
Thanks again

Yep my is a soup too. Kind of ends up like a ribolita usually.
But always starts with home canned tomatoes from last year cuz I need those last few jars. Then garbanzos and what ever beans are growing in the garden, italian sausage, collard greens, chicken stock, red wine, olive oil...
Oh guess I should be pulling up onions then lol!! My stems on the garlic are all still very upright, but I think I may sneak one just to see what they're doing ;)

Ok, I put garlic in this spring, but they were looking like small green onions, so I guess they were well sprouted :idunno . I mulched them in very well with straw, they have grown taller and look healthy, no scapes. Do I wait until the tops die back to pull them or can I start yanking now...
