I think every family has a MUSTGO recipe!

you know the food that must go so you put it all together and make a Mustgo dish out of it?

mine is usually a roasted curry veggie or meat or both

I just toss all my odds and ends from the garden ..a few carrots some onions garlic ..potatoes ..beets...beans whatever I can find that is a tail end thing so I can make room for the next planting
you can add meat but I think I just have some stock in the freezer i will pull out and add to it

so what I do is just take a pan put all the mustgo's in it dump ghee on top ..toss with some ground cumin, coriander, my favorite curry blend (Beta Pac curry from Jamaica) some chiles ginger ...I am forgetting something ..oh yeah black mustard seed and let them roast in a hot oven until nicely browned
add a little coconut milk and some stock to the brown veggies cover and cook on low for a bit longer (you kind of just know when this this is done )

then serve with fresh home made tortillas or chipatis (ok you can buy them and toast them but they are so easy and fun to make there should be no reason you can not do them yourself!) ...and a fresh mango chutney (mangos are great in the market here right now_ I just cut them up into cubes add lime juice and cilantro and chill it well

there you have it ..my MUSTGO roasted vegetable curry

what is your MUSTGO recipe? please share!

Yummy HiDelight!

I was raised on mustgo soup my whole life. "Mom, what is for dinner?" "Soup." "What kind?" "GOOD soup."

Well, I made some "Good Soup" yesterday...or as we sometimes call it everything but the kitchen sink soup.

Left over chicken and homemade chicken broth, 3 itty bitty red onions from the garden, 2 huge carrots from the garden, 1 baby bok choy form someone else's garden, and about 2 handfulls of peas I grew in the garden. Salt and pepper to taste.

Delicious, and we had it again for breakfast!

This is a great thread!!! :weee

Yep my is a soup too. Kind of ends up like a ribolita usually.
But always starts with home canned tomatoes from last year cuz I need those last few jars. Then garbanzos and what ever beans are growing in the garden, italian sausage, collard greens, chicken stock, red wine, olive oil, onions, garlic (I hope this years will be from my garden) all the herbs, basil, thyme, oregano from the garden, usually fresh maters and bell and jalapeno too just what ever is ready to go. And of course a nice hunk of parmesan rind.
Then about 20 min before I serve I throw in chunks of italian bread and let it simmer and thicken till my wooden spoon stands up in it. It is never the same twice, but always so satisfying.
I only make it now when I have fresh veggies from the garden and I always try to freeze some just so on a dark wintery day I can have it and remember my warm summer garden.

I usually make... Everything potato casserole!

I always have left over mashed potatoes... or baked potatoes... or both!

So I mix them with cream, and cheese and whatever meat or veggie I have laying around. Then I throw it in a casserole dish and into the over to bake until 'HOT'.

Hubby loves it! :D

Ok guys another mustgo dish I had last night
kind of a pilau

I had a little of this a little of that and made the following

took a lb of this great ground beef from my pretentiously raised grassfed steer (it is worth it you know ..this was a well raised very healthy happy animal who died at the hands of a humane butcher and yes it matters!!! Happy animals who give their lives for our table..it matters!!!)

anyway I digressed sorry

sauted (the lb of ground beef) it in some olive oil
with a couple of tbls of minced fresh garlic...
tossed in
a handful each
diced carrots
diced green beans
diced onion
chopped Italain parsley
chopped mint
a pinch of saffron
fresh cracked pepper
after everything was nicely cooked I added 3 cups of long grain rice
sauted it in the mix well
added six cups of water that had the juice of two lemons in it
brought the whole thing to a boil tossed in 3 Knorr beef cubes (instead of any salt I love Knor) ..cooked for about 5 min until the rice had absorbed almost all the water
covered cooked 15 min ..pushed it off the burner and let it sit a half hour

it was fan freaking tastic!!!! enjoy Pilau is a great way to use up mustgos!!!
