my grandmother has one pear tree, it is an old late variety of Bartlet but I dont remember the name. There is only one but there is also an apple tree across the road so Im not sure :hu
I know they will be small but its a start as I cant afford to buy larger trees. Right now Im in a flat nearly open field, I need to work on some cover. If shipping is free after you become a member I will definitely get more. THanks
Just thought I would mention to check with your local county extension office. Right now ours is having their annual seedling sale.
As an example, I will get a bundle of 25 10"-24" Douglas Fir for $12, no shipping you pick them up their in April. 25"-40" White Dogwood, $2 each or $8 for 5...
I havent been able to do much with the garden since Ive been living here but my dad always planted the cucumbers in the shade of the corn but I dont think they went up the corn. Pumpkins were planted many times, by accident, in the field with the corn because thats where we dumped them the year...
where did you get those? Ive been looking for a Winesap but never saw them locally. I love them, no nicely tart and crisp :drool They used to grow them at the farm market I worked for.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again, I love companion planting. I set out to plan a much larger garden than usual and it took a bit of work. My potatoes are going to end up on the other end of the house.
I dont know what the name is but they are the little yellow grape tomatoes. Everyone says they are yummy and come on plentiful. (I grow lots but I dont like tomatoes  )
my most favorite gardening book is Carrots Love Tomatoes. Ive mentioned it before. I plan my garden according to it for insect control, disease resistance, and fortifying the ground. I love it.
Ive got my Baker creek order ready to go, just waiting on the extra $ but their prices are so reasonable. If your contemplating on heirloom companies, I think they are great. www.rareseeds.com And Im ordering a couple from Park Seed that i couldnt find anywhere else.
im planning my garden and I didnt know this, any others, is there a list some where. As for the peppers and tomatoes, dont plant them next to each other, I know one stunts the growth of the other.
i didnt have money to buy cages so I took bamboo stakes I already had and placed them near the plants then ran baleling twine back and forth to help support the plants, actually worked out well. I just had to place the branches from time to time as the plants grew.
