Most flowering trees set their blossoms the year before they bloom. Therefore, they won't bloom if these flower buds are trimmed off the tree. The best rule is to always trim flowering trees within 3 weeks of when they finish blooming. That should...
i tried this last summer as my back left me out of the garden but I had already started them. THey didnt thrive till I took them out of the pot and planted them in the flower bed and by that time it was too late.
your county extension office can send out a sample for you and i dont think its very expensive. I used a test kit from Lowes last year I think like $5 and I think it did ok.
I picked this up today and I will call it a must read. I get one every year but this one has interesting articles on growing tomatoes and saving seeds, miniature livestock and the usual stuff. I like the planting guides, great for a new gardener or someone like me who just cant remember. You...
thanks, i read the other thread. So pretty much they bear really small tart fruit. I thought about getting a tart pie cherry and an eating cherry. But if the tart bush cherry is that small, as mentioned it would be hard to pit. Maybe I will look for a dwarf tree instead. THanks again
Anyone ever grow a bush cherry? BF and I were talking about what else to plant. I have 3 apples one of which I think is going to get cut down, its just too old and over grown. I mentioned a cherry tree and he said many years ago he had a bush cherry that was very plentiful. I think I saw one...
Henry Fields and Gurneys both offer $25 off a $50 order but you have to use the coupon on the catalog or your customer number from the catalog. Get to ordering catalogs ;)
great idea, thanks for showing. Are those Baker Creek seeds I see ?? :bouquet
Do you have to pop them out of the tube to plant? I cant see that they would degrade fast enough.
I would like to know too. I am thinking tomatoes, sweet corn, maybe a couple hot peppers, eggs of course, green and red pepper, watermelon (large traditional and small) and pumpkins. It will take at least another year to get my apple trees back into production as well. I will have to stick to...
I now they are small and they ship them to you when its time to plant. What can I ask for that many trees for $10. I want them mostly to border my property and I will buy some larger trees as well that I want for closer to the house. Im out in a big open field here, had to cut down one of the...
I had posted in a little while ago not sure if thats when you saw it. I plan to order some trees and a membership soon, I need a windbreak and replace a tree I just had cut down. Its great to support them and you get trees as a bonus, awesome.
yes i have, you have to order early because they do run out of things. Their shipping costs are very reasonable and fast. I love supporting a family business.
Anyone else just get the new Baker Creek seed catalog? WOW its much bigger this year and nice pictures. How do I decide????? :tools :watering

Im not sure about your area but for my zone it says they are invasive and although they grow fast they dont hold up well to high winds and have a relatively short life span. I was advised to grow red maple instead.
PS have you ever checked out www.Arborday.org you can get a collection of...
they were left go for years before i moved here, they went all up the side of the house and into the attic vent. I have ripped them down two years but the base was about 5" diameter, we took a chain saw and cut it down to the ground but I know next year it will be right back.
