My 'maters (just boring Early Girl, etc) were doing great...until the blister beetles found 'em! :somad But I managed to dehyrdate about 5 dozen or so before their untimely death.
Our power was out for about 16 hours, but we have a generator & butane stove so we were okay. The worst damage was a section of our fence got knocked down, but that should be easy to fix.
As for the garden...My pepper plants are a little tipped over, but the peppers stayed attached! My 'maters...
Looks like I will have to go pull up the little plant spikes & see exactly what they're called...
I like Dave 2000's description, a "squashed tooth"! :D
These are grown in raised beds, so I try to water them a lot, but it has been awfully hot. I've just never grown bell peppers that have all...
So, I have 2 varieties of "bell" peppers growing this year. The plants are tall, but kinda spindly & not very bushy (I think it's too shady where I planted them).
The few peppers I've gotten so far are not round & bell-like but kind of long & squished-looking (as if all the air has been sucked...
I'm so excited!! :weee
I dug up THREE red potatoes today!!! My first EVER!!! :throw
Now...I seem to remember (& I'm too lazy to search right now) that I need to let them kinda "dry out" before eating/storing...is that right? In the shade or sun? For how long?
Ooooh, they look good, too!!!
I put it on my tater plants b/c I apparently had flea beetles...I just bought a "sugar shaker" (glass jar with metal top with large holes in it) at the dollar store & kind of shook it over the leaves. I'm sure there are better ways but that's what I did. :)
Mine have already bloomed & dropped their dead blossoms; the leaves are also turning yellow, but I assumed it's because of the hot, dry weather. But I'm no expert on lilies. :/
Sometimes I think the patient is more like an after-thought to some providers... :hide
UNC was supposed to call me after my surgery there...never did. Duke was supposed to call my SIL after her surgery there; nada. It's a bit discouraging.
Hope you hear something soon, v. :hugs
Mine were definitely eating the fruit (I found several chewed-on green maters) as well as the leaves...luckily one or two had brachnid moths so they've all gone bye-bye now! :D
Well, I try to keep as organic as I possibly can...so far the &*^% beetles haven't completely chewed down my plants, so the soap must have done SOME good. ;)
Well, I went ahead & tried the dish soap & water spray, for no other reason than I had it on hand & didn't have to get into my solar oven - oops, I mean my car, & try to find anything else locally.
I only saw one of the beetles this morning, but that doesn't mean there aren't more hiding. :/...
