Just read about your family gardening weekend. My families live a little too far away for semi-spontaneous gardening weekends. My in-laws have planted some things after seeing our garden during their spring break, and my mom was talking about putting in tomatoes, but then busted her knee and...
Everything looks great! My tomatoes occasionally do the curly thing, too, but I haven't been too worried as the leaves are all still green and the tomatoes are still growing. I hope someone answers your question though, then I'll know, too.
I'm thinking of doing a SFG next season. I really like...
I hope I am posting this in the right category. I would call this plant a shrub more than anything, I guess.
Hibiscus coccineus, scarlet hibiscus, is a beautiful plant that is native to our area. I've tried to start seeds twice (once this year, once last year). I learned I had to scarify seeds...
I did a happy dance :celebrate when my milkweed came up - I am hoping to get some monarchs (caterpillar and butterflies) this year. I love butterflies of every kind, though, and unless they are tent caterpillars (I HATE those), I let them do their thing.
ETA: My avatar is a caterpillar I found...
We've been getting loads of rain, too, and it's been COLD (relativey speaking, of course)! I'm ready for the rain to stop. ;)
LOVE your quote, by the way!
Welcome! I'm a newish member, too, and have found the information priceless!
What part of the country are you in? I'm in SC. You can check out my garden by clicking on the link in my sig line.

I made some compound butter with my herbs two weeks ago, and last week (right before he left town for work) DH threw it out. I forgot to tell him I made it (it was my first time), and he must have thought, "what's this yellow green LUMP in the fridge?" He didn't even ask, just tossed it. I bet...
Wow, definitely much nicer than what I have. My wheelbarrow came from our friends' house - they had an extra when they moved in. It is so rickety that I say a little prayer each time I put something heavy in it. I think this may be its last summer.
Thanks for the inspiration, I'm going to start...
Wow, two fantastic ideas for the stump in front of my house. I'm inclined to do the fungi, since that sounds more delicious (although Hattie's celebration bbq over the stump doesn't sound half bad).
Years ago, in college, I worked for a veterinarian. On of my jobs was to dig grubs for the rehabilitating box turtles. I would grab a small bowl, a shovel, and go nuts out in the yard. The vet's dog would come with me and I would have to watch that bowl of grubs like a hawk because every time I...
Here are some ways I use my herbs.
Cucumber Dill Salad:
Slice up cucumbers.
Add 1 cup of sour cream.
Add a pinch of salt and pepper.
Add as much dill as you like (I am a dill FREAK so I put in lots).
Mix everything in bowl, set in fridge, covered, overnight.
Pull out the next day, mix it all...
I wish...
...I had made the garden even bigger (plot size).
...planted more stuff.
...been more diligent with my seeds.
...chosen to get chickens two years ago instead of another dog (don't get me wrong, I LOVE her, she's wonderful... but fresh eggs and free fertilizer would be pretty great...
Ok, I officially believe this can be done now. I'm going to buy some avocados at Costco on Monday and make some guacamole and set up some seeds.
Thanks for posting the update! My faith in the almighty avocado has been restored!
ETA: Just noticed I'm "leafing out." Very exciting. Not a...
Headred,
wow, really beautiful! I love the trellises, they make it look so natural! I had my hands on some of our fallen limbs the other day to build something extra for the beans to climb on because they are getting so big, but DH informed me that no, this was his smoking wood, hands off. :hu...

I just joined here myself, and I've already learned so much!
As for your photo, that would be a passion flower (Passiflora sp.). Depending on where you live, they can get quite invasive. I have friends who grow them here (zone 8) and really have to keep up with them so they don't get...
We have a fig tree, but I live in SC, zone 8! Not sure how much help I'll be.
I swear I've killed the darn thing every year since we've had it (we've had it three years now), and it only produced fruit the very first year (while it was still in the container). Since then we've transplanted it...
I am so jealous! I can't wait to see it all done. Hubby will not let me get a pond because he thinks it's too expensive (I recently lost my job, so yes, he's right about that right now) and the dogs will get in it (yes, he's right about that, too. They can scale decorative fences with ease)...
