Calculating Volume Of Soil Amendments For Clay Soil

Take the square footage (WxL)....multiple by 3 (for 3 inchs of amendments recommended for each layer, incorporated one layer at a time). Soil amendments are sold by the cubic yard, so to convert the volume from cubic ft to cubic yds, divide the cubic footage by 27 (27 cubic feet equals 1 cubic...

    newbie composter

Once the pile gets big enough to heat up......don't turn it until it starts cooling down (let it "cook").

    newbie composter

Keep the pile turned and "wet" (but not too wet) and the ants will move out. They HATE having their beds disturbed, regularly, and dampened at the same time. (Must make their tiny toes wrinkle up too bad)

5 Caziest Things That Occur Raising Backyard Chickens

Luckily, we were over 200 miles south of the storms and didn't get anything off of it. It REALLY carved up the center and northern part of the state, though. Those folks are REALLY hurting. The tornado hit one small town between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham destroying EVERYTHING....including the...

An Average Day's Haul of Compost Material.....

An Average Day's Haul of Compost Material.....

I saw, a while back, on the net (somewhere) where a man had taken an old push lawnmower....fashioned a hopper chute out of some sheet metal, attached it to the top of the deck through a hole he had cut in it and had, himself, a homemade chipper. May have to try to find it, again. Steve, this...

That's really sweet, Mary......but, now, ALL I have is time on my hands AND it keeps my mind occupied.....a kinda inexpensive (free) therapy session, each day.
