We couldn't have asked for a better weekend, huh? I was a little worried this morning when the wind was picking up, but it settled down into a nice breeze. Now I'm going to BBQ some chicken and enjoy the rest of the evening!
My husband and my dad put fans out on our patio so that will be so...
Sorry dial-uppers...
I got so much done outside this weekend!! :weight
My parents came out and my mom and I planted the veggie garden.
We did some seeds and some baby plants.
Peppers (Green and purple bells, Gypsy sweet, Big Bertha, Hot Banana, and New Mexico Jim)
Tomatoes (Heatwave)...
There's got to be something you can interplant with the tomotoes that they don't like. Or maybe something that will mask the smell of a tomato plant?
Good luck with that... The only way I know to get rid of them is with a BB Gun or a trap.
Wow! That's a pretty big piece of land for being where it is! I know banana trees will grow there because my grandma had one at her house (about four miles from where your church is).
As far as horse manure... I have a limitless supply. I will be out there the weekend after Easter...
Hi Cluckin!
Are you over on BYC? Check it out if you're not!
Chicken manure needs to compost for a while and it's probably better if you do mix it in with other things. It's pretty strong and I've heard it will burn if you put it down too soon.
Looks like your BYC newsletter with the link to this site is working! I'm gone for a couple days and now I have some reading to do here!!!
And BYC is just going crazy... We need to suspend Wildsky and the rest of the yackers for a month so the rest of us can catch up on the treads! :gig
Another tip she told me yesterday... and this goes for any type of pepper, even Bell...
When you plant the baby plants (as if I know the real name of a baby plant... ), stick a matchstick in the ground next to it. Push it all the way in the ground with your finger. They like whatever...
I seem to have a "knack". Maybe I can help you out? You don't get frost, do you? That seems to do them in.
They strive on neglect. They seem to be so needy when you look at them but they really aren't. Mine are in whisky barrels, in full sun (a few hours of shade), with good drainage. I always...
No, but I have mine in a whisky barrel for now and they seem to be doing fine. I'm just wondering if they will get big enough so the fruit and leaves aren't in the dirt, or if I'll really need to get them in a strawberry pot.
This is my first year with them so hopefully someone else can come by...
Hey Tricia! :frow
Google "sod cutter". That thing you posted is pretty small and it would take forever to get all of that up. DH and I rented a sod cutter from Home Depot and it lifted up 2k sq ft of grass in nothing flat. The biggest headache is getting it moved someplace else.
They do work well with those kinds of hoses. In fact, that is the watering system we are going to put in. We're piping it in with the sprinklers so the hose comes on while the sprinklers are on. I'll also be able to turn them on longer on hot days.
OK! Here we are. This is what I have... Once it stops raining and I have everything cleaned up, the beds should be 4-5 inches higher than the walkways! They go down deep, too. The till goes 8 inches and I've put on a few on top of that. I'd venture to say it's 12 inches deep with good soil.
