    They are in pots now, because it is to hot to grow tomato's outside in the sun. They are in Miracle Grow Organic potting mix. The purple is going away, how long should it take to recover?

    It is a bit dry, but they are mulched and the soil isn't dry. Thank you! I will add magnesium, hopefully they will get better.

    Raised Beds and GRASS!!!!

    I fought to keep the chickens out of the compost heap for a year, after that I gave up, and just put a 4' high fence around it so that it stays some what in a pile, and I still get great compost!

    What is humus?

    Hummus is often served on falafal with bread, it is also really good on grilled chicken. I agree that the store one is horrible, but it is quite good made fresh. Wiki actually describes it quite well this time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hummus

    My blueberries didn't have a chance with the chickens around, I even put a cage over them but a few of the hens figured out how to tip the cage, and eat the whole bush before I could get out there.

    Put fertilizer and compost around the watermelons, usually when they aren't growing that's all they need to get a boost.

    How is everyone's fruit trees doing this year so far?

    My apricot died, my fig is doing great, my guava in doing great, my citrus is doing well and my mulberries were amazing this season!! I got 700 mulberries a day!

    I have a fig tree in a wet climate, every 6 months in drops it leaves and grows new ones. It is very healthy and produces hundreds of figs a year. What kind of fig is it? I have the kind that gives green figs--I don't remember the name. :/ ETA: this might help you...
