The animals do love them, and Reb I have tried them in a salad and it does add a very interesting taste to the salad. The only reason I asked is because my wife googled the question and lots of people said it was great but the New York times had an article saying it was toxic in many ways!! I...
Mom, I used to live in Raymond NH and moved down here in SC in 1995, we have about 6 months of warm weather crop growing season down here and mild winters for cold weather crops so it's year round gardening. I remember the growing season up there, so short, I'm still having a hard time getting...
It's not like store bought iceberg lettuce both in flavor or texture, I love just going to the garden and getting supper, I now hate the months where I have to buy my salad....
:)
Decided to have a garden salad for supper tonight to go with the grilled and spiced chicken breast, went to the gardens and cut some chives with the flower head to add color, spearmint leaves, dill leaves, spinach, lettuce, sliced radishes, radish greens, home made croutons with ranch dressing...
I'll be eating it for a while, I made 11 pints so we'll be having pancakes and ice cream a bit more often!:)... I'm going back for more strawberries this weekend tho, I love my jam... :P
I'm pretty upset, made strawberry jam this morning and it came out like a syrup, it didn't gel up like it should have. I made a mistake when I bought the pectin, I bought instant instead of original pectin and still tried to use it. Is there anything I can do or should I just save it for...
Some of the vedalia onions I planted about 2 months ago are growing really well, they're forming nice bulbs and look healthy but are forming flower heads, is that normal? I thought they only did that when they were left alone to go to seed..
I covered mine with leaves last fall and when I uncovered them when the temp was right I had lost over 50 of my 60 plants, what a bummer that was, I think the leaves smothered them, next time I'll use straw...:(
Lesa is right, All American is the best but they are a bit on the heavy side, I bought the 19 quart one and I love it. As far as the danger factor goes, if you research the all American you'll see there is no danger of an explosion, those things look like you can store radioactive waste in...
Chris, goats milk is the only reason I want to get the half gallon or gallon jars, I just wanted to know where to purchase them, thanks for all the extra info, and thank you everyone for telling me where I can purchase them... :D
I'm wondering where I can get half gallon or gallon ball jars and plastic lids, I did a search at ball.com and found only canning as in can products and no glass jars there, so now I don't know where to find their glass products, can anyone help? Thanks..:idunno
Don't you love watching things bloom and grow in the spring, looks great!! I planned on putting my tomato plants out this weekend even though I always wait till after the April full moon cuz we always get a cold snap then, I'm glad I looked at the 10 day forecast. :D
Ok, I planted garlic cloves last summer, maybe July or so, they sprouted, grew a bit and the greenery died off and they went dormant and started to resprout this winter. Now I have about 6 to 8 new sprouts where I planted one clove last summer. The cloves never did develop full size bulbs but...
Congrats, isn't it great, I too had my first nibble of a radish yesterday, others are growing fast so I'll have radishes coming out of my ears soon! :D
