    Seeds

Last year their entire website went down from too many folks ordering seeds. I'd just wanted to look up how long it took for something to become ripe and the whole site was down. We have enough seeds on hand but it's always fun to order a new variety. We've been planting heirloom seeds for...

    Blooming orchids!

What tricks did your daughter teach you to keep them happy? About all I do with mine is put bunny 'berries' on them. It's a cold manure so no need for composting. Pretty much all plants seem to like them.

    Aloha

Here's some almost current garden pictures: This is the latest raised bed garden, although it's actually sort of a hillside terrace as well. We'd cleared the area for the sheep fence. The two sheep are in the back there behind their fence, they have a shaded area under the grasses that they...

    Aloha

Wonder why folks always seem to try to grow outside of their zones? Peonies would be lovely, but even the special 'low chill' requirement ones don't thrive here. There's a nursery, Bay Laurel, in California which has low chill varieties of fruit trees and I've gotten quite a few in from them...

    I love Christmas cactuses!

It's even blooming at Christmas! Yay, cactus! We have one who seems to think growing in the walkway is a good thing, it was there when we bought the property (which hadn't been lived in for decades) and the cactus has survived there for several years now with people stepping over it, which I...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

The new Baker Creek seed catalog showed up last week and it has a white bittermelon in it, what color of bittermelons do you have in New Zealand? I don't intentionally grow them, but occasionally they show up as sort of a volunteer, not sure how, I'm guessing from birds? The only thing garden...

    Blooming orchids!

Those are pretty. "Moth Orchid" is a lot easier to spell and pronounce than phalaenopsis, although a lot of folks around here call them "Butterfly Orchids" which seems nicer than "Moth", IMHO. There's a purple and white splotchy one of that type growing on the lanai here, although it's not...

    Aloha

Aloha, Not sure what to post since we're usually out of sync with a lot of other people when it comes to gardening. But, gardening is always good even if we're not in step with everyone else. This is Hawaii Island, aka the 'Big Island' which is Zone 11B, I think, as well as elevation of 1,200...
