I figure there are two roads you can go by:
1) eat what you want, but ramp up the exercise
2) restrict calories
I like to eat what I want, when I want (within reason, of course), so I try to keep active. There are lots of projects I can work on outdoors this time of year, but I guess I am...
I don't know, Steve, I think it is pretty crazy when we have gone from about freezing to 70 or 80 degrees F in one day. That is enough weather drama for me!
Why are we hoarding the rain? Well, because our aquifers took a big hit this summer. So . . . :plbb ;)
Not like you have anything to...
We just got done with an intense series of storms. High winds and lots of rain. I think we got 2 inches of rain one day and then 3 inches the next. I had standing water in my yard where I have never seen standing water before. Two nights in a row, I was awake in the middle of the night...
Well, I guess I was thinking about pruning fruit trees . . . not sure if those fall under the umbrella of what you are doing. That is most of the pruning I do anymore, as I'm focused on mostly growing edibles now.
If you want to broach involved topics, like pruning apple trees, you could...
I'm familiar with the concept. I never did it though. I'm always planting native plants and trying to improve wildlife habitat, but never have bothered to be "official."
I bought a book that was written by a guy from our state's Dept. of Wildlife about creating habitat in the home garden. It...
We have had one or two good frosts, so most of my garden has quieted down for the winter, but it amazes me that just a little protection (like on our deck, that has a roof over it, or in our greenhouse that is just covered with plastic) I still have flowers blooming and warm season vegetables...
I did a lot of cooking from the garden this past weekend.
I made the sour cream and jalapeno enchiladas again. Along with fresh jalapenos from our hothouse, I added some of the celery I grew, plus nearly the last of the dry beans I grew last year. Oh, and this time I roasted the green...
We are making up for lost time in the rain department. I'm not too horribly depressed about it, as it gives me plenty of time to goof off in the kitchen. :D
But when I do get a nice day . . . it seems like the days are so very much shorter, so I can only realistically cross one garden chore...
My goodness, Ron . . . such words of wisdom!
I was surprised to hear this. I heard it was because Gourmet could not sell enough ads to keep the zine going? But wait . . . aren't Gourmet, Bon Appetit, etc. all one big corp conglomerate now?
Yeah . . . you don't want to eat any rotting mushroom pieces. :P
With chanterelles, you don't have to worry too much about the little bugs . . . although for some reason the white chanterelle I picked last week had a bunch of little bugs on one part of it. :hu
They look kind of dry. The ones I have found are the same. They will taste better if we get some moisture in the soil again. Whenever that will be . . . .
Yes, when you go out mushroom hunting, take a small knife and a brush with you. Then you can dust them off and cut them...
