You'll have better luck at growing it in a pot. It will need a decent sized pot, since they can get fairly tall and you don't want it to blow over in wind. The flowers are beautiful, so I think it's worth the trouble.
It's fairly adaptable about the amount of light, but I'm not sure how dark...
I get most of my spices in bulk at the health food store too. But mine wasn't hippie infested till I got there. I am growing a few of the herbs myself and want to do more of them.
It tastes sharper than normal basil. Haven't used any dried, so that might calm the taste down.
The Thai basil link said it would taste similar to licorice. I love licorice and anise so that would have been nice.
The pic I took actually does look "right". The color is light to medium...
Raised beds are nice for drainage and are supposed to warm up faster than the nearby ground. It's my first year using them.
Family Dollar had some garden tools with extension handles. I got one of the trowels so I wouldn't have to bend so much when transplanting started plants. Works good.
This had a stick in the pot that just said "basil", but not the variety. Anybody know which it is? These are fast growing, and tall - about 24-30 inches already. They were just planted this spring so I don't know if they will grow much more...
My guess is that you could replant now. Started plants might be a safer bet for for the hot weather veggies.
The peas, beans, cabbage and broccoli will like the cool/cold weather. You could start them from seed and just protect them if the forecast says a freeze is coming. Lettuces and greens...
Whitewater- " Anyway, my definition of 'heritage' is somewhat tainted by the fact that I live quite a lot in the 17th century and usually have to find things that are appropriate for *that* time period (speaking of which, which chicken breeds WERE around in the 1600's in Europe?) "
Dorkings...
I better get some tin foil then.
I planted a bunch (5 or 6 kinds ) of squashes. They all came up good and I don't want any plants getting ruined. Getting a little summer squash already, and looking forward to the winter ones. :drool
I've had 4 Romas ripen so far and there are a bunch of small green ones. I started some suckers of unknown type too.
Looks like I may have a grape tomato in them. That would be cool. :fl
