    Weather Where You Are

It is cold here, the snow is in no way melting. I spent some time outside at my friend's farm and my feet were so cold by the time we left that even the car ride home with the heat blasting did not warm them. Its not so bad if there isn't wind, well its cold for sure but the wind makes it so...

I Planted a Fuyu Persimmon Tree.. Pix

This is a self fertile variety, although sometimes self fertile trees do a little better when there is a second tree for pollination it is not always the case.

    Deciding On Onion Varieties

I am looking to see which types of onions I want to try this year. I am thinking of Walla Walla or Alisa Craig. Anyone grow either of these anywhere or in the northeast?

Starting to get gardening catalogs already

I gave away 12 of them today. I already have all my seed orders in and as was said, they just keep coming. I kept 3 or 4 that I haven't had a chance to go through. I put them in a stack when I was done with them and brought them to the barber shop today when the boys got haircuts, I trade seeds...

Starting to get gardening catalogs already

I ordered all kinds of stuff this year but as far as novelty I guess it would be the more unusual pumpkin varieties. I love the look of the old fashioned pumpkins and squashes. I also am trying the luffa sponge squash. Other broccoli, purple and orange cauliflower, white, yellow, red and purple...

I put some onions and shallots in to try overwintering them this year. I figure they are cheap enough to exeriement with and I am all about trying anything and everything in the garden to find out what will work in the future. Ann, (reinbeau) grew some really gorgeous shallots this year and she...

Starting to get gardening catalogs already

I got two more catalogs today and I got 5 last week. They started coming in November. Once you are on their mailing lists you get them in droves and you get them early. Someone on here mentioned Landreth's catalog, I checked out their site, ordered a couple packets of seeds and requested their...

    Truck load of Woodchips

Yup, I checked it out, apparently the only wood that is a thread to chickens is the cedar shavings inside the coop. It causes respiratory issues but I am imagine even if this stuff wasn't great for them it wouldn't matter being that its outside the coop with all that ventilation. Still though...

    Truck load of Woodchips

We did put some in the low spots in the yard to help with that, it helps absorb that muck. I really don't know about them having to be treated, I just never thought about it. The only thing I know about the tree is that the people wanted to build something where the trees were and had them...

    Weather Where You Are

Well they are referring to it as a blizzard now, it snowed all night and its still coming down. The winds are 60mph I heard there was 10 inches in Boston early this morning and to expect between 16-24 inches by the end of today. I haven't ventured out yet myself. We are going to make Christmas...
