I heard it a couple of days ago. I often listen to oldies stations. I'm a little older than you Mary. A lot of that type of music was still getting radio play when I started listening to the radio.
The Crewcuts were a big deal, They had many top 20 hits in the early to mid 50's, I counted 12 when I looked them up. They were an important part of the transition between the big band sound and pop, not just in the US but internationally.
Here's a few for you, Patti Page, Theresa Brewer, Kay Star, The 4 Aces, The Diamonds, The Mcguire Sisters, Nat King Cole, Eartha Kitt, Dinah Washington, Johnny Ray and of course Old Blue Eyes was going strong when I was in my teens, Elvis was just coming on the scene when I was 16 and of course the big bands were still around, when Tommy Dorsey came to town it was a big deal. I also loved The Ink Spots, they had been around for a long time but I still loved their sound. My older cousins had all their records, that's where I first heard them.
