So excited, dug my garlic and here's the result from the first time ever growing it! Why did I ever think garlic was hard to grow?!
So...two of my labels were illegible, so I'm trying to remember which one was which. The garlic in the middle was definitely Susanville, an artichoke softneck variety I got from Hood River garlic and planted 10/9/2011. These were the smallest size bulbs of the 3 types I planted. So that will be my long storage one.
The braid on the right I dug about 2 weeks ago, it was ready before the other two...and I think that was my Chesnok Red, a hardneck type that I also got from Hood river garlic.
The largest bulbs are on the left, they're a hardneck I think, because they definitely had scapes (It's only hardnecks that get scapes, right??). I'm going to try them tonight, if I like the flavor I'll definitely plant them again this fall, and likely the Susanville, if they last a long time like they're supposed to.
