So excited, dug my garlic and here's the result from the first time ever growing it! Why did I ever think garlic was hard to grow?!

So...two of my labels were illegible, so I'm trying to remember which one was which. The garlic in the middle was definitely Susanville, an artichoke softneck variety I got from Hood River garlic and planted 10/9/2011. These were the smallest size bulbs of the 3 types I planted. So that will be my long storage one.

The braid on the right I dug about 2 weeks ago, it was ready before the other two...and I think that was my Chesnok Red, a hardneck type that I also got from Hood river garlic.

The largest bulbs are on the left, they're a hardneck I think, because they definitely had scapes (It's only hardnecks that get scapes, right??). I'm going to try them tonight, if I like the flavor I'll definitely plant them again this fall, and likely the Susanville, if they last a long time like they're supposed to.

Wonderful! Your harvest looks great! The best part is, you won't have to buy garlic to plant again. I am still growing the same garlic I started with years ago! I love the idea of planting something in the fall- and harvesting it the next season. Nothing brings me hope like uncovering the garlic, in the early spring! Enjoy!

Looks good Heather! I'm looking forward to harvesting all 6 of mine too!
But this fall I'm going big! Or at least bigger, and I'll be sure to mulch this time.

Garlic Garlic Garlic!!! Its so beautiful! The varieties you have look amazing. YUM!!!

I can't wait to get my order in and 2 more varieties, I haven't decided what they'll be yet. We go through Organic Valley to get ours... need to pick out our onions too since I plant them both at the same time. :)

I'm also thinking I'll try leeks again too.....

Is makes us wonder why some of us waited so long to try growing garlic. Yes, it is so easy and for me it's easy to remember when to plant it. October is my favorite month! Like Thistle, I'm also going BIG this fall and plan to plant lots.

Wow, looks great! This inspired me to grow it. People have told me it is hard to grow so I didn't even bother with it, but next season I will be sure to!

"next season" is not that far away. I planted my cloves Oct. 9 last fall, and i saw some people here talking about having trouble getting the varieties they wanted, because they were sold out already. So you may want to look into it soon :)
