@Nyboy there's a mess of green varieties to grow. Green zebras are good & should grow for you. I've had them & they went bonkers for me. Those are a common type I've seen for sale at the big box stores that sell started plants.

have been telling you all a lie what i have been calling a cantaloupe, is truly a french charentais melon.. what's you going to do fire me?
Cantaloupe are supposed to be Italian melons and American "cantaloupe" are supposedly muskmelons and not cantaloupe, at all ... o_O! Who knows!??

French charentais are a favorite. I actually have 2 volunteers from last year. That one was a hybrid and these melons are small. They might make it before frost - if they can't do it here in 2015, I don't know when!

Please post the fragrance, Major', a ripe charentais smells wonderful!

The weather for this year's growing season in upstate New York has been great, with lots of sun, heat, and enough rain to keep everything healthy. We will not have to pick tomatoes at the local farm this year, as we have already canned several batches. The plants have a lot of fruit still growing, with several weeks left in the growing season. Eggplant has been prepared and frozen, with some preserved in oil with spices and garlic. The cucumbers are finished, but we have relish and pickles to remember them by. Garlic and onions have been dried and are ready to eat, so all in all it has been a great season. Green beans have been planted where the cucumbers, garlic and onions were growing, and are progressing nicely. Now, I am planning ahead to indoor growing, so I am starting seed for lettuce and one type of tomato to grow indoors. Hope everyone else had a great season also.

Oh, I love it when I get credit for saying smart stuff! Unfortunately, that wasn't me. But thanks anyway!

That picture of your leftover eggplant and the last of your Bangkok peppers is just ridiculous Major. Amazing production you have going on over there.
Wanna grow me some potatoes?

@majorcatfish, your tomatoes at the "done" stage have three times the tomatoes mine had in full production. I can't complain about the San Marzanos, but the Big Beef, my main crop, were very disappointing. I did get some from them, but not nearly what I had hoped. I see they are all blooming again, and there are a lot of marble size tomatoes, which probably won't have time to ripen, but I guess I'll leave them and see what happens.
Next year I will remember to cage the San Marzanos, as they sprawled badly, and even though I have thick straw mulch, it has been so wet here, the fruit had a damp pile of straw to start rotting on.
